Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet recently shared stories from making Dune, including a particularly fun memory with co-star Javier Bardem. The upcoming movie is based on the beloved 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The new adaptation is directed by Denis Villeneuve, but it isn't the first time the source material has been given the big screen treatment. David Lynch famously wrote and directed Dune movie in 1984. However, it was both a critical and commercial disappointment, with many feeling it didn't make the most of the book's impressive story.

The new Dune movie is set to release October 1, 2021. This is a significant delay from its original release date, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Chalamet will play Paul Atreides in the film, a part that went to Kyle MacLachlan in the first Dune adaptation. Zendaya will play Chani, though her role is relatively minor compared to others. Meanwhile, Bardem stars as Stilgar, the leader of the Fremen tribe. Warner Bros. has already released quite a few photos from Dune, though they've left some concerned about the movie's muted look, which may extend to the story. Unfortunately, audiences still have a long wait until they get to see the movie in full.

In the meantime, Dune's stars are doing what they can to tide fans over. For the December issue of Elle, Chalamet interviewed Zendaya about a number of topics. Naturally, the conversation turned to their experiences on Dune:

Chalamet: What was your favorite thing we did on break from shooting?

Zendaya: I guess it was the dance parties that I hosted in my room.

Chalamet: There was a super legit f**king wrap party at the end there. We were with some of the cast, and then Javier [Bardem] came in and we were all dancing.

Zendaya: Javier popped in, yeah.

Chalamet: You have Polaroids of that moment, right? That was a full-on dance party.

Though the exchange doesn't provide any real details about the movie itself, it does speak to the cast's comfort level with one another. This is especially important for Zendaya and Chalamet, as they play love interests in Dune. Typically, a solid back-and-forth off-camera translates on-screen as well, which should only strengthen the film. Their dynamic in the interview doesn't come as too much of a surprise, considering Zendaya recently said she and Chalamet connected immediately after meeting. The story about their off-camera antics is also interesting considering Zendaya herself has spoken about her relatively small Dune role. Clearly, she managed to make the most of the experience, even if she wasn't on set very long.

Additionally, Dune is a rather serious movie, so it's nice to hear the cast at large didn't let that bog them down too much. It makes sense an off-camera release was needed for the film's more intense scenes. Hopefully, the cast comradery with one another translates on-screen when Dune finally releases next year.
