Zendaya admits her Dune role is actually rather small. Over the years, Zendaya has proven herself to be one of the most talented young actresses in Hollywood, having successfully made the jump from the Disney Channel to more adult roles. Currently, Zendaya is probably best known for playing Michelle "MJ" Jones in the MCU, and she'll be back for next year's Spider-Man 3Beyond that, she just scored her first Emmy nomination for HBO's Euphoria, where she plays struggling addict Rue. When it comes to Dune, Zendaya plays Chani, one of the natives found on the desert planet Arrakis.

Denis Villenueve directed the latest adaptation of Frank Herbert's iconic 1965 sci-fi novel, and anticipation is rather high. Dune has been adapted into several films and television shows, but none of them managed to successfully capture the scope of the novel. Villeneuve hopes to change that with his new Dune, which he has split into two parts with the intention of giving him more time to properly delve into the world. Timothée Chalamet leads the star-studded cast, which also includes Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, and Josh Brolin.

In a new interview with InStyleZendaya briefly spoke about her role in Dune. While she didn't give many specifics about her character, she did lavish praise on the entire production, as well as Chalamet in particular. Interestingly, though, she also revealed that she isn't in the film very much. Her full quote is as follows:

Dune was incredible. I wasn't in it very much, so when I was watching the trailer, I was like, "Oh my gosh!" I called Timothée [Chalamet, who stars in it] and said, "Dude! You should be proud." It is a big deal to even be a small part of something with such a massive cast. And I love sci-fi stuff too. It's fun to escape into another world.

Zendaya in Dune

In the original novel, Chani forms a deep bond with Paul Atreides (Chalamet), which makes one wonder if Zendaya will have a more sizable role in the second film. It's unclear as to how much ground the first Dune will cover, but the second (still unconfirmed) installment could provide the opportunity to dig further into certain elements. Of course, with a cast as large as Dune's, it's inevitable that even some of its biggest stars won't have as much to do. It's unfortunate that Zendaya's Dune appearance might not be as large as some may have hoped, but she can still be guaranteed to put on an excellent performance.

Zendaya also mentioned the Dune trailer, which many fans are eagerly awaiting. Reports suggest the first Dune trailer will arrive later this month with the re-release of Inception, so people won't have to wait too much longer to see what Zendaya's talking about. Hopefully, it will feature some thrilling visuals and a good look at Dune's superb cast. Beyond that, Dune will arrive in theaters later this year, provided the coronavirus pandemic doesn't disrupt its release plan.
