The official poster for 2021's Dune shows off the film's expansive cast and teases a lengthy sci-fi epic from director Denis Villeneuve. Timothée Chalamet will star as Paul Atreides, heir apparent to House Atreides, led by his father, Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) and mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson). Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Chang Chen, and Stephen McKinley Henderson play loyal (and not so loyal) advisors to the Atreides. Stellan Skarsgård will play the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, while Dave Bautista will take on the role of Glossu Rabban, the Baron's eldest nephew. David Dastmalchian, recently seen in The Suicide Squad, will play sadistic mentat Piter De Vries. Finaly, Zendaya will play Chani, a Fremen native to the planet of Arrakis and Paul's love interest.

The expansive cast of characters will be wrapped in an operatic space conflict over control of Arrakis, a planet also known as Dune. Dune is the only source of the spice melange in the universe, a coveted resource that allows for advanced mental capacities and gives the Spacing Guild Navigators the ability to travel vast distances across the galaxy. When House Atreides is given control of the planet Dune, a trap is set for Paul's family and he will have to face off against enemies both familiar and foreign.

A new poster for Dune, the official one for the film, shows off the cast of characters that will be ensnared in this battle. The poster features a bright blue background with a classic poster design. The characters are seen all together, standing over a desert landscape with a lone figure walking over the sand. That figure is Chalamet's Paul, whose destiny is intertwined with the planet of Dune's. Check out the full image below:

The poster also teases the lengthy sci-fi epic, with the tagline for the film simply, "It Begins.Dune will adapt the first half of Frank Herbert's novel, itself a lengthy and dense tome with complicated world-building. In addition to the Houses Atreides and Harkonnen, there is a vast, feudal like hierarchical system that encompasses the galaxy, overseen by the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, who has plans of his own for the planet of Dune. With six novels in the main series and a vast collection of spinoffs, prequel books, and other material written by Herbert's son Brian, there is plenty of source material to mine.

First, though, a potential sequel to Dune will have to finish the story that begins in the first film. With a reported runtime of 155 minutes, Villeneuve's film will already cover a lot of ground, but it certainly could spend time establishing arcs that pop up in later novels, too. Luckily, with roughly two and a half months to go until the release of Dune, audiences won't have to wait long to dive into the live-action world of this space empire.
