Dune star Zendaya admits she has not yet seen Denis Villeneuve's upcoming sci-fi movie. Based on the acclaimed novel by Frank Herbert, Dune is the latest Hollywood reimagining of the epic story. David Lynch previously adapted the book in 1984, but Villeneuve is putting his spin on it. Dune is known to be one of Villeneuve's biggest passion projects, and his incredible filmography and the all-star cast assembled have made the film highly anticipated by movie fans.

Legendary and Warner Bros' original plan was to release Dune in late 2020, but that was not possible due to the coronavirus pandemic. The studios were forced to delay the film for nearly a year, resulting in Dune releasing on October 1, 2021. Interest in the movie was relatively high last year following the debut of the first trailer. The Dune footage showed the scale of Villeneuve's adaptation and focused plenty of Timothée Chalamet leading the ensemble as Paul Atreides. While the world continues to wait to see the movie, it turns out that not even Zendaya has been able to see it.

Zendaya appears in Denis Villeneuve's Dune as Chani, the primary love interest for Paul Atreides and a member of the Fremen. During a recent interview with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote her new Netflix film Malcolm & Marie, Zendaya was asked about the upcoming movie. The young Hollywood star expressed her desire for people to finally see the movie, but she's also eager to see it herself.

I have become a Dune nerd, for sure. I'm very, very excited. I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of it. It’s such a beautiful thing and I’m geeking out like everyone else. I can’t wait to see it. I can’t wait for people to see it. It’s special.

Zendaya in Dune

Since Dune was initially supposed to be out in theaters by now, it is somewhat surprising that Zendaya hasn't got the chance to see it yet. There hasn't been any update on Dune's post-production status, so it is unclear if Villeneuve is finished with the movie yet. Even if he were done, the director would likely prefer to show it to his cast at an official premiere on the big screen. As long as Dune sticks to its current October 2021 release date, it will only be a matter of time before Zendaya gets to see it.

However, the biggest news about Dune recently has been how it will be released. Warner Bros. announced in late 2020 that Dune and their entire 2021 slate would debut in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously. This decision was not made by Villeneuve and Legendary, though, which resulted in threats of legal action. No final decision has been made on what Dune's release strategy will look like, but Villeneuve is adamant about an exclusive theatrical launch. Hopefully, whatever the case may be, it won't be long before some new footage arrives through a second trailer.
