New magazine covers featuring Denis Villeneuve's Dune split the movie's ensemble into two factions. Villeneuve is bringing Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel back to the big screen in an effort to reboot the story previously adapted by David Lynch in 1984. The Dune reboot assembled a huge cast of A-list stars to fill out the expansive world, with Timothée Chalamet playing the lead role of Paul Atreides.

The cast for Dune and Villeneuve's involvement are just a few reasons why many are eagerly anticipating the film's release, which is currently scheduled for December 2020. The director has said he's on a bit of a time crunch to get the movie done in time, thanks to the remote post-production work required. But, the marketing for Dune has so far been minimal. Warner Bros. released a few images from the movie earlier this year, but the first trailer has yet to arrive. As fans continue to wait to see footage from Dune, the marketing campaign is starting to heat up and assemble the all-star cast.

Empire has released the covers for its upcoming October issue and unveiled exclusive new looks at the Dune cast in the process. There are two main covers that split the cast into different factions. The first cover features House Atreides, with Chalamet's Paul Atreides prominently positioned in front of his father Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), and master-at-arms Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin). The second cover features the Fremen clan from the planet Arrakis, led by Stilgar (Javier Bardem). He is joined by Chani (Zendaya), Dr. Liet-Kynes (Sharon Duncan-Brewster), and Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa).

These covers continue to use the incredible cast to sell the movie, as the sandy setting for Dune takes a backseat. For most of these current characters, this isn't the first time they've been seen, but the covers still provide details. This is unquestionably the best look yet at Bardem's Stilgar, who will have a prominent role in Paul's story. The placement of Duncan Idaho with the Fremen is intriguing since he is Leto's right-hand man, but his future may lie with the Fremen when everything is said and done.

As great as these new looks at Dune are, it won't be long now before footage from the movie is finally released to give a better understanding of Villeneuve's take. It has been confirmed the first Dune trailer will be released on September 9. A version of the Dune trailer is currently playing in front of Tenet internationally and is expected to be attached to Christopher Nolan's movie when it arrives in domestic theaters next week. Hopefully, these covers will make the wait fly by.
