A teaser for Dune reveals new footage of the highly anticipated adaptation and announces the release of a second trailer coming soon. Denis Villeneuve's latest sci-fi epic has faced a long road to theaters. Initially meant to be released in December 2020, Dune looked primed to hit theaters before the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic shut theaters down once again. The film was delayed to October 1, 2021, taking the slot of Robert Pattinson's The Batman. Recently, Dune was delayed another three weeks and is now slated to hit theaters on October 22, nearly two months after its September 3 premiere at Venice International Film Festival.

Dune's ensemble includes a slate of Hollywood heavyweights, including Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, and Javier Bardem. The film will adapt the first half of Frank Herbert's seminal novel, considered by many to be one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time. Long considered unadaptable, Dune was finally adapted for the first time in 1984 by David Lynch. A subsequent Syfy miniseries was released, but the upcoming film will be the first time in nearly forty years that a film version of the novel will hit the big screen.

Now, Dune has released a new teaser, revealing brand new footage of the upcoming film and teasing the release of a second trailer. IMAX will hold a special event on July 21 and 22 that will reveal exclusive new footage from the film in addition to music and behind-the-scenes footage. A new trailer will also be released eventually with additional footage. The clip announcing the event also contains fresh footage from the film, which can be seen below:

The footage in question shows off brief clips from the film that haven't been seen before. New glimpses of Bautista's Rabban lording over the Emperor's Sardaukar troops can be seen, likely before House Harkonnen attacks the planet of Dune and House Atreides, as well as Skarsgård's Baron Harkonnen floating above his house seat. In addition to the glimpses of the antagonists, new footage shows off Chalamet's Paul Atreides and Zendaya's Chani. Finally, brief clips show off some of the aerial battles above the sand of Dune and what looks to be House Harkonnen's invasion of the planet.

While Dune's first trailer provided an exciting glimpse at the film, it played its cards close to the chest, saving much of the footage for the film and its eventual second trailer. While some may be disappointed that the film will only adapt the first half of the book, likely cutting the movie off right after House Harkonnen's attack on House Atreides, it might be for the best. Dune is a comprehensive novel, one that seems unadaptable because of its vast world-building and complicated plot, so a two-parter is likely best for the highly anticipated film.
