The final trailer for Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune has arrived, showing off epic battles, new dialogue, and characters riding giant sandworms. Based on the renowned sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert, Dune tells the story of two warring houses, House Atreides and House Harkonnen, who battle for control over the planet Arrakis, aka Dune, which is the only known planet in the universe that has a spice known as Melange, which is the key to space travel and technological advances, as well as mental acuity. The book has been adapted a number of times in the past, including a feature-length film from director David Lynch in 1984 and a TV mini-series on Syfy in 2000.

Villeneuve's adaptation covers the first half of Herbert's book and has a massive cast, including Timothée Chalamet as the lead, Paul Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen, Zendaya as Chani, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Dave Bautista as Beast Rabban Harkonnen. Villeneuve is expected to film the second half of the book if given the green light, which depends largely on how well this first entry performs.

In anticipation of the film's release, both in theaters and on HBO Max, the final trailer for the Dune has debuted, which gives a larger peek at the epic battles featured in the film. A larger focus delves into the technology in the film, specifically the spacecraft and vehicles used by both House Atreides and House Harkonnen. The trailer also features more dialogue than has been revealed thus far, giving more perspective and personality to the various key players in the world of Dune. Check out the trailer below:

Dune debuted at the Venice Film Festival last month, garnering a standing ovation, even though reviews trended on the mixed side. Still, many reviews have hailed the film for its epic storytelling and signature style of Villeneuve. Dune currently sits at 89% fresh on RottenTomatoes, which is a strong score for a big-budget endeavor that's mostly known only amongst fans of the book.

The decision to release Dune both theatrically and on HBO Max has been one of contention for Villeneuve, who has been vocally against it from the start. The director has since endorsed the move, accepting that the pandemic has left little choice in the matter. The biggest concern, of course, is that the film would perform well enough to merit filming the second half, as it would leave a dangling thread in telling the full story if that didn't happen. Still, HBO and WB seem enthused to have Villeneuve complete the story, and international box office thus far has been impressive, so hopes are high that Dune will capture the popularity it seeks and continue the journey.
