New high-definition character posters have been released for Denis Villeneuve's Dune. This is a feature film adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel by the same name. The original science fiction story explores an inhospitable planet, which is powered by the spice melange that originates there. When Paul Atreides' (Timothée Chalamet) noble family is betrayed, he seeks revenge. There have been two prior attempts at adapting this story, once by David Lynch in 1984 and again through a mini-series in 2000.

The cast of Dune is led by an array of A-listers. Those playing roles closest to Chalamet's character include Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, and Zendaya as Chani. However, the cast also sees the likes of Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Chang Chen, and Javier Bardem. Dune posters for some of the lead characters have previously been released.

Warner Bros. released new Dune character posters that highlight some additional characters. Since this film will only be focusing on the first half of the original novel, it makes sense that the tagline on each poster reads "It Begins." The posters feature close-ups of Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Liet Kynes, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, Dave Bautista as Beast Rabban, David Dastmalchian as Piter De Vries, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, and Chang Chen as Dr. Yueh. After having been delayed several times due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Dune is finally hitting theaters on October 22. When Warner Bros. announced the decision to release all of their 2021 titles on HBO Max on the same day that they hit theaters, Villeneuve was outspokenly against this decision. He intended for the film to be seen on the biggest screen possible with a loud sound system that only a movie theater can provide. More promotional material is on the way and the movie will be making its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 3, which will only increase the amount of excitement that the film has already generated, if reception is favorable.

The world of Dune is immense and incredibly difficult to adapt into a feature film. The last two adaptations to a visual medium left many fans disappointed, so hopefully Villeneuve's adaptation doesn't fall victim to the same fate. For now, audiences get these new character posters to get a peek at what some of the characters will look like. None of these posters are very visually striking, although it's exciting to see these actors transformed into their characters. Given the amount of time that fans have been waiting for Dune to be released, this is a welcome sneak peek.
