When Dune comes to theaters and HBO Max on October 22 it promises to be a visually stunning film on an epic scale. Directed by Denis Villeneuve the film tells the story of young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) on a hero's journey. To help him along the way is his mentor Gurney Halleck played by Josh Brolin and Stilgar, a Fremen leader who also lends his assistance, played by Javier Bardem.

Brolin and Bardem spoke with Screen Rant about being part of the epic sci-fi film and what's to come in Dune 2.

Screen Rant: What does this moment feel like? Do you feel like you're part of something historic, or has that not sunk in yet for you guys?

Javier Bardem: Oh, no. I mean, it's a movie, and it's a movie that hopefully, people will like. I think their reaction here [at the Venice International Film Festival] was very good, and I think that Denis has done amazing work. You just put your little thing into it to try to help to tell the story, but to think that you're part of something big or unique is too much thinking.

Josh Brolin: But if you feel that? Great! That's all for the audience, whatever they get from it.

When we were doing No Country [For Old Men], people asked us all the time, "Was there a feeling that you were doing something really wonderful?" No. If anything, we thought nobody would see it. You know what I mean? In that collaborative place, you're just kind of doing the work, and you're in that bubble.

But to see this reaction that we've had in the last two days is pretty great.

When does that hit? For No Country For Old Men, when did that hit?

Javier Bardem: I think it went big when it opened in the States, and then we started to get all this recognition and these awards, and this life and reaction from people.

It's funny, I saw the movie from a different perspective from what I saw at first. Then I start to understand what they saw, and I saw kind of what they saw. Before, I didn't see that; I saw my own movie.

Josh Brolin: Yeah, you see yourself and things that you're doing. You're like, "Why'd they choose that?" or "Why'd you do it that way?" or whatever. Vanity gets in the way, you know what I mean? That's why it's fun to watch other people.

I knew when I saw this that Denis did something really special. Because he's a special director, and he's been around for a while. I did Sicario with him, and I thought Sicario was great. I thought Arrival was fantastic. I'm a big fan of his; we're both big fans of his.

When you have people working on this that are all at the top of their game, you know it's not going to be bad. But when you have a reaction like we had the other night, then you go, "Oh, so they get it."

We know that Dune will be split into two parts. Do you guys have an inkling of what's to come? Because Denis told us it was but an appetizer for Part Two.

Javier Bardem: Really? That's good.

Josh Brolin: I know we have a lot of stuff in Part Two. We don't have anything in this first movie, but we have a lot of stuff in Part Two.

Javier Bardem: As we heard.

Josh Brolin: As we heard. That's what we've heard.
