Update: Read our complete Dune trailer breakdown.

The Dune movie trailer is released. Based on Frank Herbert's acclaimed science fiction novel of the same name, visionary director Denis Villeneuve tackles the new adaptation. David Lynch helmed the last attempt to adapt Herbert's epic in 1984, though the film was neither a critical nor financial success. For Villeneuve's take, he's assembled an all-star cast lead by Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, a young nobleman who travels with his father to a dangerous desert planet called Arrakis.

The Dune movie cast also includes Oscar Isaac as Paul's father Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson as Paul's mother Lady Jessica, Zendaya as Paul's love interest Chani, and Josh Brolin and Jason Momoa as Paul's mentors Gurney Halleck and Duncan Idaho, respectively. That's not all, though, as Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Dastmalchian and Javier Bardem are also featured in the Dune cast. Villeneuve has assembled some of the biggest stars in Hollywood for his attempt to adapt Herbert's sci-fi epic and it's the cast along with the filmmaker's vision that are highlighted in the first Dune movie trailer.

Warner Bros. released the Dune movie trailer, which can be viewed below, showing off the most extensive footage from the upcoming movie. Chalamet's Paul Atreides is a key figure of the trailer since the character is the protagonist of this story. The movie deals with Duke Leto taking control of the planet of Arrakis, which is riddled with giant sandworms, and tensions with the planet's native people, the Fremen. Of course, this story is complicated by Paul's own coming-of-age, and his ability to dream the future. Check out the Dune movie trailer.

Just as Herbert's novel introduces an expansive science fiction world, Villeneuve's movie is set to deliver an epic experience with its visuals. As is made readily apparent in the trailer, the cast and the epic scale of this sci-fi film are the selling points, though the actual story of the movie isn't as clear. Still with a star like Chalamet, who's a focal point of the Dune movie trailer, Villeneuve has chosen a talented and beloved star for his movie's protagonist. Given the young actor's proven track record in dramatic films, Chalamet is no doubt capable of carrying off a movie such as Dune. And though the rest of the cast isn't showcased as much in the trailer, there's certainly hints to how their performances, along with Chalamet's, will appeal to audiences.

That said, it'll be Dune's grand scale that entices moviegoers to theaters to check out Villeneuve's adaptation of Herbert's book. That scale is on full display in the trailer, with shots of the massive sci-fi spaceships, the planet of Arrakis and, of course, the giant sandworms that live on the planet. Though the giant sandworms in Dune are only shown for a moment at the end of the trailer, they certainly look terrifying. Altogether, though viewers unfamiliar with Herbert's novel may still be confused about the plot of Dune, there's plenty in the trailer to pique the interest of moviegoers.
