Robert Pattinson has expressed interest in appearing in Dune: Part II, and there are multiple uncast characters he could play. Based on the 1965 book of the same name by Frank Herbert, Dune adapted the first portion of the story about Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and his destiny to save the desert planet Arrakis. While Dune centered on House Atreides and its destruction, its sequel will focus more on the evil House Harkonnen and Paul’s mission to free Arrakis. Set to premiere on October 20, 2023, Dune: Part II will begin filming during the summer of 2022, but has not yet cast every new role.

In a recent interview (via Variety), Robert Pattinson described his goal to act in Dune: Part II. This desire is rooted in his admiration for Dune’s director, Denis Villeneuve. With other recent movies like Sicario and Arrival, Villeneuve has become known for his stunning imagery, dark themes, and complex concepts. This matches Pattinson’s current style of movies. After working on several dark, lower-budget films, Pattinson returned to blockbusters with movies like Tenet and the recently released The Batman.

Based on The Batman’s successful opening weekend, casting Pattinson in Dune 2 may be an effective way to attract more viewers. Dune: Part II will introduce several new characters, especially in the Harkonnen family, so Pattinson has the opportunity to join the cast. While Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen is the most obvious role for him, strong competition from other actors could lead to him considering other characters, such as Count Hasimir Fenring or even Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV.

Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne in The Batman

The clearest character choice for Pattinson in Dune: Part II is Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård). Despite being the younger of his two nephews, the Baron selected Feyd to be his heir. Feyd was known for being intelligent and charismatic but also cruel like the rest of his family. Due to this, he served as both Paul’s enemy and a warning of who Paul could have become if he had been raised by the Harkonnens instead of House Atreides. While this would be the ideal role for Pattinson, there are rumors that other actors are also already being considered for the part, including Tom Holland and Harry Styles.

With this competition, Pattinson could end up playing an entirely different character in Dune 2. For example, Count Fenring was an accomplished assassin and politician. Serving as Emperor Corrino’s advisor, he was known for being cunning and dangerous. In addition, Pattinson could portray Emperor Corrino, who purposely sent House Atreides to their doom on Arrakis. Although the character was quite a bit older than Pattinson, his use of the drug spice mélange would have slowed his aging and lengthened his lifespan, explaining why he was still described as having red hair despite his advanced age. Due to his desire to work with Villeneuve, Pattinson has expressed his desire to act in Dune: Part II, and if his growing schedule allows, there are plenty of characters for him to consider.
