Will Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels ever reunite for Dumb And Dumber 3? Jim Carrey was best known for his appearances on sketch series In Living Color before he became a movie star in 1994, thanks to three huge hits in a row: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb And Dumber. Each movie put Carrey's talents for physical comedy on display, and Dumb And Dumber cast Carrey as Lloyd and Jeff Daniels as Harry, two incredibly dim-witted friends who got caught up in a madcap adventure.
Jim Carrey has a self-professed aversion to sequels, however, only making 1995's Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls out of contractual obligation. Following this, he largely eschewed follow-ups to movies like The Mask or Bruce Almighty - though subpar sequels were eventually produced without him. In 2003 a prequel dubbed Dumb And Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd recast the title characters with Eric Christian Olsen as Lloyd and Derek Richardson as Harry, though the film was greeted with bad reviews and lackluster box-office. In 2014 Carry and Jeff Daniels finally reunited for Dumb And Dumber To, which found the duo on another wacky adventure.
Sadly, the follow-up proved disappointing to many with critics finding the comedy stale, while Harry and Lloyd themselves becoming surprisingly mean-spirited in the intervening years. The sequel earned over three times its production budget regardless, but what are the odds of Dumb And Dumber 3?
Dumb And Dumber To's Post-Credit Scene Teased A Sequel
The post-credit scene of Dumb And Dumber To found Harry and Lloyd riding a Zamboni and tossing away some milkshakes they're unhappy with. These shakes explode on the windscreen of permanently angry trucker Sea Bass - who the pair faced in the original - who prepares to ram them with his track in revenge.
A third movie dubbed Dumb And Dumber For is then teased, though its release date is 2034, a meta-joke on Dumb And Dumber To also taking twenty years to arrive. While it's a funny gag, it's doubtful a third movie would focus on Sea Bass coming after the pair - though the two-decade wait could prove to be accurate.
Jeff Daniels And Peter Farrelly Are Up For Dumb And Dumber 3
When the sequel opened in 2014, co-director Peter Farrelly and Jeff Daniels both confirmed to Variety they'd be open to another Dumb And Dumber movie, though the former pointed out that was only a possibility if the sequel did well. Carrey didn't comment on a third film, however, and given his historic avoidance of sequels, he could prove to be a roadblock to one happening. And then he agreed to a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog...
Dumb And Dumber 3 Isn't Currently In Development
Since the underwhelming critical response to the second movie, there's been little sign of Dumb And Dumber 3 happening. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reunited in 2020 when the latter narrated the audiobook for Carrey's novel Memoirs And Misinformation, and the two remain close friends. While a third movie isn't currently in development, there remains a slight chance it could happen - and it honestly wouldn't be a shocker if it did come in 2034.
