DuckTales will end with an extended series finale in March 2021, the show has confirmed via its official social media handle. Serving as a reboot to Disney's 1987 series of the same name, DuckTales chronicles a new chapter in the life of trillionaire Scrooge McDuck after he reunites with Donald Duck and tasks him with babysitting his mischievous triplet nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Together the young ducks reignite Scrooge's wanderlust, and the gang sets out on several new treasure-hunting escapades and globe-trotting expeditions. DuckTales first premiered on Disney XD in August 2017. It then briefly switched over to Disney Channel in summer 2018 before finally returning to its original network for its third season.

Although DuckTales is a reboot of a classic Disney animated series, its popularity and critical reception have far surpassed all expectations. The show's conception of the Duck clan is not only attuned to nostalgia, but it's also exquisitely crafted and daringly spirited. The show knows its audience well, and with its heart and adventurous narrative, it seeks to entertain both new and accustomed viewers. Part of the show's success can be credited to its stellar voice cast - David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, Beck Bennet, and Toks Olagundoye - which plays an essential role in bringing the House of Mouse characters to life. Recently, the series creators Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones dropped a major bomb on fans by announcing that the current season 3 would be the last for DuckTales. And, following up on the devastating news, the show now has secured a date for its final episode.

On Tuesday, Disney Channel PR announced on Twitter that DuckTales would end with an extended 90-minute-long series finale on Monday, March 15, 2021. Bidding a heartfelt adieu to the acclaimed cartoon series, the media relations portal affirmed that the show would continue to be available on Disney+ and Disney Channel worldwide.  In the final episode, titled “The Last Adventure!,” the Duck family will face-off against the Fiendish Organization for World Larceny (F.O.W.L.) in a climactic conflict. The repercussions of the confrontation will be startling as the lead gang will across some earth-shattering secrets, which will put the future of adventuring in limbo. Disney has also confirmed that starting Feb. 22, DuckTales will air a new episode every Monday up until the series finale.

With the beloved Duck family wrapping up their mysteries and hijinks next month, it makes sense for fans to be heartbroken, especially after they had tried to reverse the show's cancellation with their #SaveDucktales2017 hashtags. But looking at the bright side, fans will at least get an extra hour of hilarious Duck shenanigans before the show bows out for good. Plus, several guest stars, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Giancarlo Esposito, Julie Bowen, Jaime Camil, Jameela Jamil, Catherine Tate, Stephanie Beatriz, Paul F. Tompkins, Jim Rash, Margo Martindale. Jason Mantzoukas, John Hodgman, Retta, Kimiko Glenn, Libe Barer, Jaleel White, and Amy Sedaris are returning for the finale. This means that the last episode will be a memorable, glitzy affair that will honor the show's legacy while giving the fan-favorite characters a deserving send-off.

After three seasons of intriguing plot lines, endless puns, Easter Eggs, and references, DuckTales is drawing to a satisfying close. The series continued and honored Disney's tradition of invention and reinvention, thereby proving that the Duck family is so much more than a silly amalgamation of quacking cartoon animals. Throughout its run, the show snagged nominations and awards and maintained its reputation as a bolder counterpart to the original series. Now for its finale as well, the show is looking to go out with a bang. And an oversized episode filled with starry cameos is just the right way to do that. Hopefully, the series finale will be worth the wait, and it will provide fans with logical conclusions to the season-long arcs they have yearned to see unravel.
