Ducktales co-creator and writer Frank Angones confirmed that the Disney reboot is properly bringing Darkwing Duck into the story with an hour-long special event, coming to Disney XD this October. Darkwing Duck was a popular part of the Disney Afternoon lineup in the 90s and had his own show that ran from 1991-1995. Initially, a fictional character within the Ducktales reboot, actor duck Drake Mallard took up the mantle of Darkwing Duck as a real superhero in Ducktales season 2 episode “The Duck Knight Returns.”

Angones confirmed that Ducktales season 3 would return to Disney XD on September 21st, four months after the last episode aired in May, and revealed the schedule of the upcoming episodes via his Twitter account. He included six episode titles and release dates, including a Halloween Special and an hour-long Darkwing Duck event titled “Let’s Get Dangerous,” set to air on October 19th.

With the original show running from 1987 to 1990, the Ducktales reboot aired in 2017 and quickly became a favorite amongst viewers. Some have even speculated that the upcoming hour-long special may set off a new Darkwing Duck spinoff series, centering around Drake Mallard.

Ducktales is developed by Matt Youngberg and Frank Angones. It follows Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck, and Donald’s nephews Huey, Dewie, and Louie as they embark on treasure-hunting expeditions around the world with their housekeeper Mrs. Beakley, her granddaughter Webby, and Darkwing Duck superfan pilot Launchpad. Fans can expect to see a lot more of the beloved characters, including Darkwing Duck, when season 3 resumes in September.
