Apple Macbook and desktop users can now install the DuckDuckGo public beta app on their devices. Being a privacy-focused web browser, DuckDuckGo is already available for download on the Apple app store and is beloved among iPhone users. It is also available for iPad users, providing an excellent privacy-focused alternative to other popular internet browsers like Google Chrome.

Surprisingly, Apple and DuckDuckGo stand united at least whenever users' privacy is concerned. For example, during the iOS 14.5 launch, DuckDuckGo praised iPhone's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) initiative on social media. Furthermore, inspired by Apple's focus on privacy, DuckDuckGo also released App Tracking Protection (ATP) for its Android app. Thus, enabling many iPhone and Android users to enjoy a tracking-free browsing experience.

Until now, Mac users had the option to change the search engine in the Safari browser to DuckDuckGo. However, this method does not provide the same set of features as a full-fledged browser would. DuckDuckGo, keeping that in mind, finally released a public beta for Mac computers. A closed beta of the privacy-focused desktop browser was already running on several devices since last year, and now it is available for the general public as well.

Here's How To Download The DuckDuckGo Beta App On Mac

Currently, the only way to download DuckDuckGo app on Mac is by joining a private waitlist. People on the list are constantly getting approved, so the sooner a user joins the queue, the sooner they can download the app. Keep in mind that users need not share any personal information to enter the private waitlist.

To get the DuckDuckGo Mac browser, users need to download the latest version of the DuckDuckGo mobile app or update to the current version, if the app's already installed. Users then have to open the app, click on 'Settings,' and select the 'DuckDuckGo for Desktop' in the privacy section. And then click on 'Join the Private Waitlist.' After a while, users will get a notification from the app taking them to the invite code and a download link that the user can open on a Mac desktop or laptop. Clicking on it will start the DuckDuckGo Mac app download.

Keep in mind that features will be constantly added or removed from the DuckDuckGo Mac App as the feedback from the beta version continues to drop in. However, with a full-fledged desktop browser, Mac users will finally enjoy a plethora of privacy-focused features. For starters, DuckDuckGo provides built-in protection from website trackers and cookie pop-ups in addition to a one-click data clearing feature called the 'Fire Button' and more for free. Currently, the DuckDuckGo browser does not support browser extensions, but the feature could be added soon. Until then, DuckDuckGo's inbuilt privacy features will suffice for most Apple Mac users, its creators believe.
