DC Comics will introduce Dreamer for the first time in the comics, as the transgender hero will make her first appearance in the upcoming DC Pride anthology comic. Played by actress Nicole Maines, Nia Nal was an original character created for The CW's Supergirl television series. Dreamer is the first transgender superhero to ever appear on television. The character's popularity has led to the character being adapted into the comics for the first time.

Nia Nal was created by Robert Rovner and Jessia Queller and first debuted in the fourth season of Supergirl. A descendant of Dream Girl from the Legion of Super-Heroes, Dreamer has the powers of precognition and astral projection due to her heritage from the alien planet of Naltor. She teams-up with Kara Danvers and becomes an ally to her team, playing an integral role on Supergirl as one of the heroes on her squad. Dreamer became a fan-favorite character on the series, despite Nia never appearing in the comics - but there were certainly calls to see the character adapted to the page.

On Thursday, DC Comics revealed a brand new anthology titled DC Pride, which will feature multiple stories starring LGBTQIA+ characters from the DC Universe. Among the heroes revealed includes Dreamer, who will star in her own story written by Maines and artist Rachael Stott. While there aren't many details about Dreamer's comic debut, TV's first trans superhero will become DC Comics canon for the very first time.

Dreamer will be joined by a number of other LGBTQIA+ heroes, as DC Pride will feature a new Batwoman story by James Tynion IV and Trung Le Nguyen, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn by Mariko Tamaki and Amy Reeder, Midnighter by Steve Orlando and Stephen Byrne, Jess Chambers' Flash of Earth-11 by Danny Lore and Lisa Sterle, Aqualad by Andrew Wheeler and Luciano Vecchio, Renee Montoya by Vita Ayala and Skylar Patridge, and Pied Pipe by Sina Grace, Roe Stein, and Ted Brandt. It's an impressive mix of characters and creators. DC will also release a series of Pride-themed variant covers throughout the month.

It's really great to see DC Comics feature Dreamer and the LGBTQIA+ characters and creators in the upcoming anthology. Dreamer is a great superhero whose backstory is ripe for further exploration in the comics. Having Nicole Maines, the actress who plays Dreamer on Supergirl, help introduce the character to some comic book readers is awesome. Hopefully, Dreamer's time in the comics isn't just a one-and-done story, and the hero will continue to pop up in the DC Comics universe as well as DC's television universe. DC Pride, an 80-page anthology, will publish on June 8th.
