Popular streamer Dr Disrespect recently experienced Call of Duty: Mobile and was surprisingly positive about the experience, praising the map design in particular. While the popular streamer has been playing Call of Duty: Warzone quite often for the past year, he has made it clear that he’s become slightly disillusioned with the gameplay loop. This sentiment was shared by many fans of the battle royale title after Activision revealed that the “new” map was simply the same one but set 40 years in the past. Verdansk '84 may contain a few new buildings and surprises, but it was ultimately not the dramatic change that some Warzone players were hoping for.

Call of Duty: Mobile, on the other hand, features a different map entirely that is much more reminiscent of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale map. Although that game’s map was certainly enjoyable, Verdansk '84was a big improvement in terms of size and how varied the landscape is. Call of Duty: Mobile, on the other hand, features a map that is more similar to the Black Ops 4 artistic style, which may well have been the change that Warzone fans were hoping for when a new map was first announced.

According to Dexerto, Dr Disrespect specifically noted that the Call of Duty: Mobile map did a “good job with the design of this map and making it feel different everywhere you go.” This is in contrast with Verdansk, which he called “really flat across the board.” The issue of “flatness” was exacerbated in the Verdansk '84 map, in which many buildings that were high-rises in the original map are now under construction and therefore not as tall.  Despite the recent introduction of Nakatomi Plaza from Die Hard, it is undeniable that Verdansk '84 still feels much flatter than its predecessor.

Dr Disrespect’s admiration for Call of Duty: Mobile is particularly surprising due to his previous comments about mobile games. In June of 2019, he went so far as to tweet that “mobile gamers aren’t real gamers,” a statement that naturally did not sit well among the mobile gaming community. It’s  a notable testament to Call of Duty: Mobile’s quality that not only did he enjoy his time playing it, but even lamented that the “mobile community is spoiled.” Of course, this does not necessarily mean that Dr Disrespect will begin streaming mobile games anytime soon; however, he seems to be leaving the door slightly more ajar than before he tried Mobile.

Mobile games have definitely come a long way. While many millennial gamers will remember a time when mobile games were little more than a way to pass time during a commute, they have since become a significant pillar of the gaming community. Games such as Fortnite were instrumental in making mobile gaming be viewed as a legitimate experience. Today games like Diablo: Immortal are presented as huge releases with their own loyal followings. Mobile gaming will only continue to become more impressive as mobile technology improves, which means that at some point mobile games will be virtually indistinguishable from their console counterparts. Until then, games like Call of Duty: Mobile are here to show the best of what mobile games are capable of.
