James Gunn's The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special puts Drax the Destroyer's durability on full display by establishing how hard it is to kill him. During his superhero endeavors in the MCU, Dave Bautista's Drax has shown some incredible feats of strength, athleticism, and vitality. However, instead of staying loyal to the invincibility of his comic book counterpart, the MCU, so far, has used the Kylosian giant for comic relief along with Pom Klementieff's Mantis. Owing to this, Drax and Mantis prove to be the perfect leading duo for Marvel's wacky yet sentimental The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Although the MCU has never previously highlighted the true scale of Drax's superhuman abilities, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special gives a surprising glimpse into it. In a scene where Drax has a showdown with the cops while attempting to abduct Kevin Bacon for Peter Quill, he gets shot at multiple times. To the cops' dismay, the bullets from their guns don't even leave a scratch on his skin, while he hysterically laughs it off and claims that "it tickles." This scene not only establishes that trying to kill Drax with regular guns is a futile endeavor but also proves that the MCU has been underplaying his powers.

Can Guardians Of The Galaxy's Drax Really Be Killed?

Drax Guardians of the galaxy Holiday special

Although The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special makes it evident that steel bullets cannot harm Drax — let alone kill him — the limit of his durability is yet to be measured in the MCU. He shows regenerative abilities after Ronan the Accuser beats him down and even after he gets stabbed in the neck by Yondu's Yaka arrow. However, since the MCU has neither explored nor defined the limits of Drax's power and indestructibility, it is hard to determine whether he can be killed. Drax dies at Moondragon's hand in the comics, but that does not indicate his vitality in the MCU because the movies have completely changed his characterization. What is established, however, is that Kylosians - Drax's race - are killable, as half of the population were massacred by Ronan as part of Thanos' "cleanse" of the universe. Theoritcally, then, Drax is not invincible.

Everything Drax Has Survived In The MCU So Far

Other than surviving Ronan's brutal blows and Yondu's arrow, Dave Bautista's Drax shows his physical prowess in Guardians of the Galaxy when he single-handedly wreaks havoc in the Klyn by overpowering multiple guards and even ripping apart a security drone in half. In Guardians of the Galaxy 2's opening moments, Drax also survives after mindlessly diving inside the Abilisk's mouth in a foolish attempt to cut it from the inside. During his clash with Kree Korath the Pursuer, Drax overpowers Sakaarans with ease and effortlessly rips out Korath's cybernetic implant from his head.

Similar to his hilarious bulletproof moment in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Drax shows no signs of injuries and laughs with excitement when the Guardians' ship crash lands on Berhert in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. In Avengers: Endgame, Drax even withstands a powerful punch from Thanos and survives a shockwave from the Power Stone, even though it knocks him out for a while. However, even with so many impressive feats of raw resilience under his belt, MCU's Drax the Destroyer has limitations and would probably not survive in a head-to-head brawl against a worthy opponent who is even nearly as strong as Thanos or Ronan.
