When season three of The Dragon Prince wrapped up in 2019, viewers were left with lots of questions surrounding not only the next steps for their favorite characters, but about the intricacies of Xadia and its magic too.

Given that the team behind the show recently released an end-of-the-year update (via The Dragon Prince's website) giving progress reports not only on the status of the show's production but also books and games within the franchise, there's no better time to reflect on the story told so far, and threads currently left hanging.

The long wait is finally, as season 4 of The Dragon Prince comes to Netflix on November 3rd, and a trailer (via YouTube) has been released to tide fans over until then. It's been three years since the last season aired, but many questions about Xadia and its inhabitants remain.

Is King Harrow Really Gone?

King Harrow and his bird Pip in The Dragon Prince

A lingering question in many fans' minds since season 1 concerns the fate of King Harrow, despite his supposed demise at the hands of the Moonshadow Elf assassins.

RELATED: 10 Questions After Watching The Dragon Prince Season 4 TrailerGiven the connection Harrow was shown to have with his bird Pip, as well as Viren's suggestion on the eve of the assassination that the King uses dark magic to switch his soul with a willing volunteer, a persistent theory has been that out of sight, Harrow did indeed undergo the transfer, but with his trusted songbird rather than a soldier, leaving him alive and inhabiting Pip's body.

How Will Zym Adjust To Life With His Mother?

Zym and Zubeia reunite in The Dragon Prince

The Dragon Prince himself, Zym was finally reunited with his mother Zubeia in a heartfelt moment at the end of season 3 once the Queen awoke from her great slumber.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how Zym will settle into living amongst dragons given that all he has known so far is life with Ezran, Callum, Rayla, and Bait. There are sure to be adjustments, not only on the dragon's part but Ezran's as well, as he gets used to not having Zym, who is not just cute but also a very likable Dragon Prince main character, by his side.

Will Claudia Continue To Use Dark Magic?

Claudia uses Dark Magic in The Dragon Prince

Claudia's use of dark magic, which the mage learned under her father's tutelage, has ranged from frivolous to fate-changing, as proven in the season 3 finale.

In upcoming seasons, Claudia could either continue down the path she's on or perhaps like her brother Soren, come to understand the danger both her magic and her father continually place her in.

What Does The Key Of Aaravos Unlock?

Callum holds the key of Aaravos in The Dragon Prince

The best episodes of The Dragon Prince season 1 introduced secrets not only with regards to the show's characters, but the world of its setting too, including those of the Key of Aaravos, introduced as an object that was passed down to King Harrow through his family.

Callum soon comes into possession of the Key, which supposedly has the power to unlock something in Xadia with tremendous power. On each side of the cube are runes that correspond to one of the six Primal Sources of magic, and the runes glow when in contact with someone or something connected to their respective source. Both what the Key unlocks, and how Aaravos owned and lost it, remain mysteries.

What Happens To Those Viren Traps In Coins?

Viren shows Gren the coin with Runaan trapped inside in The Dragon Prince

Viren's magical knowledge is far-reaching, and the dark mage often uses spells not seen anywhere else in the show, including an incantation that traps people in small gold coins.

Most notably, Viren used this ability on Moonshadow Elf Runaan, but it's also been hinted that the same fate befell Rayla's parents, Tiadrin and Lain. Once Viren has the souls captured in this way, it's not clear what his intended use for them is, nor what those trapped experience inside the coins, but it seems that he has used this trick numerous times to subdue his Elvish opponents.

How Do Ezran's Abilities Work?

Ezran holds Zym in The Dragon Prince

One of The Dragon Prince's best characters, Ezran has a courageous disposition and deep care for animals, with whom he shares a magical connection, allowing him to understand and communicate with them.

This talent extends even further when it comes to Ezran's bond with Zym, with whom Ezran developed a telepathic connection, which has already proven very useful for both dragon and human. The origins of Ezran's gifts remain unknown, though, and haven't been linked to any of the Primal Sources of magic thus far, hinting at the possibility that maybe other types of magic are out there that humans can access.

How Will Aaravos Emerge From His Cocoon?

Claudia and Viren watch Aaravos in his cocoon in The Dragon Prince

After ages of scheming and using Viren's assistance for his own gain, Aaravos ended season 3 of The Dragon Prince having entered into a cocoon, which Claudia observed had been changing as she watched.

How Does Callum Access Primal Magic?

Callum casts Primal magic in The Dragon Prince

Great emphasis is given in the lore of The Dragon Prince that humans are unable to access and harness primal magic, leading to their reliance on a dark alternative, but Callum proves this isn't the case.

In developing a connection to the Sky Arcanum without a primal stone to aid him, Callum showed that humans have more magical potential than they've been led to believe, but whether this was through deceit or true ignorance is unclear. In any case, Xadia's magic system is just one reason The Dragon Prince has become a TTRPG, allowing fans to explore these classifications while they wait for season 4.

Who Will Sit On The Throne Of Katolis?

Ezran sits on the throne with Bait in his lap in The Dragon Prince

As Ezran abdicated the throne and with Viren now in hiding, the question of whom the throne of Katolis falls to is up in the air.

If Ezran wished to return, there could be complications around him taking up the title of King once more given how he left things, but alternatives could present themselves either in a relation of Ezran's like Amaya, or one of the country's trusted advisors like Opeli. In any case, whoever sits on the throne will be ushering in much change to Katolis, given its shifting relations to Xadia.

Can Rayla Ever Properly Return Home?

Rayla talks to Ethari in The Dragon Prince

When season 3 finally took Team Zym into Xadia, Rayla was given the chance to visit her home, but all was not as she'd hoped it would be, and she found that she'd been banished.

This magical curse turned Rayla into a "ghost," meaning she couldn't be seen by her people, and although she managed to have brief contact with Ethari, her status remained unchanged. Moving on in her mission, Rayla remained deeply affected by this turn of events, and it's unknown if or how a banishment like this can be broken.
