One of the most hilarious scenes in Dragon Ball history takes place during one of the most dire circumstances, and it proves that Yamcha will never be cool. Yamcha is perhaps the biggest let down of any Dragon Ball character. When he was introduced, he looked like a more badass Goku with his origin as a desert bandit, facial scars, and cocky attitude that gave fans the impression that he was someone who was not to be messed with. However, when Yamcha was killed by a Saibaman, fans realized that Yamcha was not up to snuff, a fact that remains true to this day.

In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 53 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, the Z-Fighters are gathered together to form a plan of attack after Bulma tells them that Moro is on his way. The only few that are initially in attendance are Krillin and Piccolo, though Gohan and Tien have been alerted.

While Bulma, Krillin, and Piccolo wait for the others to arrive, Krillin asks, “Should we contact Yamcha?” and he is met with complete silence before the Galactic Patrol officer Jaco arrives and quickly sparks a change of subject. This hilarious moment confirms that Yamcha isn’t even on the roster anymore in terms of being a champion of Earth against a deadly threat. To make matters worse, Jaco, someone who has time and again proven himself to be a pretty mediocre and overall cowardly fighter, sparks more interest and excitement with his arrival than even the prospect of alerting Yamcha to the threat.

Yamcha Body Image

Yamcha being omitted from the Z-Fighters has been a long time coming and has truthfully been a fact ever since he gave up fighting professionally in Dragon Ball Z’s "World Tournament Saga" after nearly being killed by Cell and the Androids. Though even before then, Yamcha’s head was not in the game as he showed he was easily distracted during training and didn’t have as much interest in getting stronger as even the likes of Krillin and Tien.

Overall, Yamcha chose to be lame by not committing to the warriors’ cause as those he once called his peers had done. While at one point he was at the top of the list to combat a powerful invading alien force, he is now barely considered to even be told that there might be a malevolent conqueror on his way to the planet—he means that little to the actual defenders of Earth. Yamcha hasn’t really been a main player since he got killed by that Saibaman resulting in the iconically hilarious image of Yamcha lying dead in a pit. Now, that fact has been cemented in the minds of fans as well as in the main Dragon Ball continuity as the series’ most hilarious scene proves Yamcha will never be cool.
