Spoilers for the Dragon Ball Z anime and manga belowOne of the darkest timelines featuring Gohan and Trunks in the Dragon Ball Z universe just received a perfect homage in fan art connecting to Marvel's X-Men. In a great piece from artist @ddjvigo, Gohan and Trunks take the roles of Wolverine and Kitty Pryde, as the iconic cover from the X-Men's Days of Future Past storyline perfectly fits the dark future where the two manga heroes were the only survivors.

In the X-Men universe, Days of Future Past is considered one of the most beloved storylines, as the Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Terry Austin two-issue comic is still fondly remembered to this day. The comic featured Kate Pryde sending herself back in time to protect the X-Men from a dark future. The storyline was adapted in the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past, where Wolverine starred in the time-traveling adventure. In new Dragon Ball fan art, Gohan and Trunks get their own iconic cover, showing the manga's version of the X-Men event.

Twitter account @VivaErManga shared the X-Men and Dragonball crossover art from artist @ddjvigo, which features Gohan and Trunks taking on the roles of Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. The crossover is a perfect match of storylines from two different universes, as instead of the mutant heroes standing in front of a picture of their fallen allies, future Gohan and Trunks appear in front of all the Z Fighters who are missing or were killed by Android 17 and Android 18.

The X-Men Crossover With Dragon Ball Shows The Dark Future of Gohan and Trunks

Much like the X-Men storyline that the Dragon Ball fan art homages, the dark future in which Gohan and Trunks exist in a world filled with death and destruction, as like the mutants killed by the Sentinels in Days of Future Past, the characters similarly watched their greatest allies die. The manga and anime series ultimately features Trunks returning to the timeline after the death of Gohan - where he would eventually take down Mecha Frieza.

The Dragon Ball fan art is a fitting marriage between the manga's universe and the Marvel Comics world. The Future Trunks storyline is quite similar to the X-Men's Days of Future Past, and as such, it feels more than appropriate to homage the arc with the cover art featuring Trunks and Gohan in front of their fallen Dragon Ball allies.
