The Dragon Ball character known as Trunks is a fan-favorite Z-Fighter who has beaten his fair share of powerful enemies, and now in an epic piece of fan-art, Vegeta’s son stands as the winner in a Saiyan versus Green Lantern fight! Trunks beating a Lantern is one thing, but him potentially being the newest protector of the universe after the dust settles is something far more intriguing entirely.

Shared on Instagram via artist J.P. Perez’s @artbyjp handle, J.P.’s page is chock-full of art showing off his pop culture knowledge and nerdy tendencies. Posting illustrations of characters seen in comics, video games, anime, and more, J.P. bringing Trunks and Green Lantern together is a treat for fans of both franchises to see, with DBZ fans, in particular, being more well off after seeing what Trunks has done to this poor Lantern.

Showing Trunks smiling and looking down at something he holds in his hand, J.P. Perez draws a broken Green Lantern Power Battery in Trunks’ grasp, insinuating that not only did Trunks defeat the owner of this imperative Lantern accessory, but did so in a way that was brutal enough to shatter this powerful piece of alien tech. Pouring from the crack on the Power Battery’s faceplate, green wisps of excess energy sizzle up into the air, with the smoking remains of what can only be a Green Lantern's body wafting around Trunks to boot. And although it’s unclear exactly how Trunks took down a member of the fabled Green Lantern Corp., Trunks getting the decisive win against one of DC's space cops isn’t a surprise for fans of this overpowered character.

A part of a long-running series that has its fair share of will-filled characters, Trunks defeating a Green Lantern is a tall feat for anyone to accomplish, yet in Trunks’ case, it becomes a blessing in disguise. Forced to overcome great fear on more than one occasion — a defining character trait needed to harness the power of a Green Lantern ring in the first place — Trunks most certainly has the potential to become a Lantern himself if given the chance. And since he’s taken out and possibly even killed the user of the broken Power Battery he holds, getting the ring to slip onto his finger and flying over to Oa to fix his power source wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for this iconic Z-Fighter.

The characters of Dragon Ball and DC Comics may never get an official crossover, but with J.P. Perez on the case, fans can at least speculate on how things would potentially go down. Trunks beating down a Green Lantern is a fun fan moment to imagine, so be sure to check out @artbyjp’s Instagram page for more DBZ x DC mash-ups!
