Summary

  • Beerus is the strongest God of Destruction in Dragon Ball Super, surviving attacks from all other gods combined.
  • Individual factors, such as personality and training, greatly influence a God of Destruction's power.
  • Goku and Vegeta have the potential to reach the level of a God of Destruction, but they are still not a match for Beerus.

The Gods of Destruction from Dragon Ball Super are all-powerful and virtually unbeatable, forming yet another obstacle to Goku's effort to become the best fighter in the multiverse. However, when matched against one another, there is one God who is the first among equals. Presently, there are twelve Gods of Destruction, one for each of the existing universes. While the Gods of Destruction are all able to use "Hakai", the power of destruction, it does not mean that they are equally powerful.

A God of Destruction’s individual characteristics greatly influence the extent to which they can use their powers. Perhaps the most important individual factor affecting a Destroyer's abilities is their personality. Destroyers are no different from humans in that they can let their emotions affect their decision-making, especially in times of stress. The Destroyer who is calmer, more focused, and perhaps nastier than their opponent, is likely to be the more powerful God of Destruction.

When these factors are taken into account, Beerus, Quitela from Universe 4, and Belmod from Universe 11 stand out as the strongest Gods of Destruction.

Beerus is the Strongest God of Destruction

While these are the cream of the crop, it is Beerus who is clearly the strongest. In Dragon Ball Super chapters #28 and #29, the Supreme Powers of all Existence, Zeno and Future Zeno, organize a pop-up exhibition match between Dragon Ball Super's Destroyers. At the tournament's sudden conclusion, Beerus is the God of Destruction who proves himself to be the best of the best. He not only survives the combined attack of the other 11 Gods of Destruction, but is one of the last two standing before the match is called off by Zeno and Future Zeno.

Another important individual factor influencing the abilities of a Destroyer is their training. This is another area where Dragon Ball's Beerus has the edge. Gods of Destruction are trained by Angels, and while all Angels are generally of the same skill level, there are some who are just better. Whis and Vados, the trainers of Beerus and Champa, respectively, are widely believed by fans to be the most skilled Angels. Lastly, a possible individual factor separating the strongest Destroyer is their species. Except for Beerus and Champa, the other ten Destroyers all come from different species.

Will Goku and Vegeta Ever Match a God of Destruction's Power?

That brings things around to Goku and Vegeta, who have been training with Beerus and Whis and are seemingly being groomed as possible replacements for Beerus when his time as a Destroyer ends. They've undergone extensive training already, which has propeled them to new heights; while both Goku and Vegeta have managed to acquire divine levels of power, but in their present state, they're still barely a match for Beerus.

Vegeta's new Ultra Ego technique, however, is explicitly the power of a Destroyer god, and while Vegeta struggled to use it in his first attempt, the fact that he was even capable at all speaks volumes about how far he has come. Goku's Ultra Instinct is also known as the divine technique of the Angels, putting him on that level as well. While the day when Goku and Vegeta can face down with Beerus is still a ways off, it is growing ever closer.

Gods of Destruction play an important role in the Dragon Ball universe, working with their colleagues the Supreme Kais to bring balance. Whereas Dragon Ball's Kais give and facilitate life, Destroyers are responsible for extinguishing planets and life forms that they deem dangerous or unworthy of continued existence. Thus, each of the Gods of Destruction in Dragon Ball Super wields immense power, but it is Beerus who stands above the others as the mightiest of them all.
