Warning! Spoilers ahead for Dragon Ball Super chapter 70

Vegeta has been capable of destroying planets and moving at super speed for a while, abilities that should not really be possible in a world governed by the laws of physics. But the Dragon Ball Super manga has taken power levels to newly absurd heights to the point where the toughest characters could probably end things on a galactic scale.

The prince of all Saiyans started out as a lowly warrior conquering planets for Freeza before he encountered Goku and was almost killed while trying to take over Earth. Since then Vegeta has changed a lot, mostly for the better. But his power has only grown more enormous with each (very vocal) transformation. And Beerus wants to teach Vegeta to get even stronger. The God of Destruction is teaching his pointy haired pupil how to destroy things down to their base components in Dragon Ball Super #70 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotaru.

Vegeta has strived to match Goku in terms of power but has always fallen short (not just because he’s small). And he hasn’t been able to train with angels like Goku and learn techniques that only the truly noble can master. Vegeta has done way too many horrible things to be trained by the likes of angels, so he needs an equally bad teacher to show him the ropes. Enter Beerus, who hints that Vegeta could pick up a thing or two by watching Beerus completely destroy matter. As a god he is capable of completely obliterating things, leaving no trace behind. This shouldn’t be possible. The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. All energy was present at the Big Bang and has not been destroyed since the birth of the universe. But Beerus can take those ancient energies and just get rid of them.

Beerus Vegeta

Learning of this power makes Vegeta almost salivate with envy. He and Goku would do just about anything to get stronger. And learning how to make atoms disappear from the universe is right up Vegeta’s alley. If he can somehow also leverage this newfound power into a hair makeover, all the better. The guy changes his hair color more often than Billie Eillish. Vegeta may be a family man, but his roots are still as a bad guy.

Even destroying something small like a rock releases immense amounts of energy, according to Beerus. This sort of makes sense, but Beerus tells Vegeta that the rock’s very essence is erased when he uses his destruction power. So if all the energy stored in the rock is destroyed, then there really shouldn’t be an explosion, right? Since the matter is forever destroyed, there wouldn’t be anything left over for an explosion. Ignoring this logical lapse, the laws of physics (always a bit fungible in the world of Dragon Ball Super anyway) are now completely bendable. Next thing these guys will start defying gravity and flying, or making plasma beams out of nothing, or teleporting.
