It looks like Broly may be in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero teaser trailer. Released by Toei Animation at New York Comic Con, the short trailer provided a better look at the new animation style and the movie’s villains. This time around, Goku and Vegeta will be up against the Red Ribbon Army.

At least on the surface, Goku’s old foes from the original Dragon Ball anime hardly feel like they can match the threat level of the previous movie’s main antagonist. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku and Vegeta were pushed to their limit by the arrival of the Legendary Super Saiyan. The classic Dragon Ball Z movie character’s official introduction into Dragon Ball canon ended with his defeat, but did set up a possible return by having him survive the final fight with Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta. However, there was no indication at the time if Dragon Ball Super would ever revisit him. Many believed that the intention was for him to be a one-and-done villain, especially since the conflict reached a proper resolution.

A blink-and-you-miss it shot in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero trailer seemingly reveals Broly’s return. Beginning at 0:32, the trailer previews an intense battle on Beerus’ planet between Goku and another character. When Goku is jumping backward, what appears to be Broly’s head can be spotted atop a cloud of smoke at 0:34. The muscled arms also boost the connection. Based on the face, hair, and physique of the character, a second canon appearance from Universe 7's Legendary Super Saiyan looks to be on the horizon. As for what he’s doing, it could be that Goku brought him to Beerus’ planet for sparring purposes. After all, Goku did express an intention to fight with Broly again the last time the two met.

Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero

It’s worth wondering why Broly is hiding in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero trailer. It’s possible that the reason is related to him having just a minor role in the movie. That could be the case, especially if he just appears in the beginning. Goku, Vegeta, and Broly could be training with Whis when the story kicks off. If so, his role may be limited to a cameo. That would be understandable, given that Broly's off-the-charts power level could cause him to overshadow the two main characters in a fight. Plus, his uncontrollable rampages make him a wildcard. Taking him into battle would put their own lives at risk.

Alternatively, there is at least a chance that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will find some room for Broly to leaven an impact on the story. There could be a point where Goku and Vegeta, upon realizing that they need him to win, recruit his aid for a major battle. If so, it would mark the first time in a movie (canon or otherwise), that Broly has fought on the same side as the Z-Warriors. But even if this isn’t the case, any guest appearance from the fan-favorite villain will likely be welcomed. Due to in large part to him being reimagined as a tragic and sympathetic figure, there’s been a significant interest in what comes next for his character.
