Here's whether Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero 2 is possible, and when the potential Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero sequel could arrive. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the second feature-length Dragon Ball Super movie and the 21st movie based on the anime, not counting the infamous live-action Dragon Ball Evolution. With the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie as its predecessor and the Dragon Ball Super anime reviving the franchise after the mixed reception of 1997's Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero certainly revs up interest for another movie.

Dragon Ball Super has expanded the franchise in more than one way. The anime has introduced various new transformations, from Goku Black's one-off Super Saiyan Rose to Goku's virtually undefeatable Autonomous Ultra Instinct. Dragon Ball Super has also reintroduced a couple of major characters from Dragon Ball Z, namely Frieza and Broly. Now, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero continues the same trend with Gohan and Piccolo's brand-new transformations, the return of the Red Ribbon Army, and a powerful iteration of Dragon Ball Z's Cell.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero leaves the door open for a sequel, which may come sooner rather than later. While there's no clear next step for the anime at the moment of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero's release, fans can rest easy that more Dragon Ball content is coming soon. Here's what will follow Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and when it could arrive.

Will Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero 2 Happen? Will There Be Another Dragon Ball Movie?

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero 2 is not confirmed yet. However, Dragon Ball Super producer Akio Iyoku revealed in a V Jump interview that "a new entry in the series is already in the making!" (via Twitter). According to Iyoku, the creative team is actively working on an upcoming project with the direct support of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. While a sequel to Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero hasn't been officially confirmed, Iyoku's update is great news for Dragon Ball Super fans. Importantly, even if the next Dragon Ball movie is a sequel to this story, it is unlikely to retain the "Super Hero" title, considering how every previous Dragon Ball movie has separated itself from the rest both in terms of story and branding.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero 2: What Does The Movie Set Up?

Cell and Android 16 in Dragon Ball Z

Although Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero introduces a standalone plot that gets resolved before the credits roll, it does set up some interesting changes for the Dragon Ball Super franchise. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero finally sees Gohan back in action and reveals that he still has plenty of untapped potential for future battles. With Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero's introduction of Gohan's Beast transformation and Piccolo's "Orange Piccolo" form, the series' power rankings seem bound to change. However, Gohan and Piccolo's new transformations may not be canon as they were conceived exclusively for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Meanwhile, Goku, Vegeta, and Broly are continuing their training with Beerus and Whis, suggesting that they will be more powerful than ever before in their next canon appearance.

The return of Red Ribbon's Army in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero gives them the opportunity to interfere in future storylines, and their ability to create more powerful androids suggests that more versions of Cell could return. Gamma 1's turn to heroism almost guarantees his return in a future Dragon Ball Super season or standalone movie, while Gamma 2's defeat at the hands of Cell Max makes his return unlikely. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero's blink-and-you-miss-it nod at Gevo, Dr. Gero's son and the template for the late Android 16, could also be a reference to his eventual return as a new android. Of course, all of this depends on whether Dragon Ball Super chooses to keep Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero canon or not.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero 2 Release Date Prediction

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero took five years to produce, and the quality of its 2D-3D hybrid animation style is a testament to it being worth the time it takes. If Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero 2 uses the same animation technique, the sequel may take the same amount of time to arrive, making a mid-2027 release date possible. However, a five-year period without any Dragon Ball content besides the manga is unlikely, so the next release fans could expect is either a 2D-animated movie in the vein of Dragon Ball Super: Broly or a brand-new Dragon Ball Super season — either one with a potential release date of 2024, given the production time of previous Dragon Ball Super seasons and movies.
