A new trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Broly previews an explosive battle with Goku and Vegeta teaming up against the Legendary Super Saiyan. As the first film to use the Dragon Ball Super branding, the movie will continue the story of the anime that ended in March after 131 episodes.

Announced in December 2017, the 20th film in the Dragon Ball franchise is set after the events of the Universal Survival Saga, which saw the heroes of Universe 7 win the Tournament of Power and defeat Jiren. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama is supervising the development of the film, which is expected to dive deep into the history of the Saiyan race. The movie will also debut an all-new design for the fan-favorite villain, Broly.

The new trailer sees Goku and Vegeta engaging in an epic showdown against Broly. During the fight, both heroes are using their Super Saiyan Blue forms, which is an indication that Broly is far more powerful than he was in previous films. One highlight from the video is that at one point Vegeta is seen using the Super Saiyan God form for the first time. In the anime, Vegeta bypassed this form and skipped straight to Super Saiyan Blue. Also appearing in the trailer are other key characters, such as Beerus, Piccolo, and Frieza, who has been shown to have a major role in the movie.

An interesting thing to note about the trailer is that though Goku and Vegeta look to be hitting Broly with everything they have, at least one of them isn't using their full power. Toward the end of Dragon Ball Super, Goku achieved a new power level known as Ultra Instinct. It's possible that Goku will have to use this form to finally take down Broly. Some are speculating that Goku and Vegeta will be forced to fuse and become Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta.

The movie marks Broly's fourth appearance in the movies. Broly is the only Dragon Ball character to serve as the main villain in more than two films. However, the movie is Broly's first in-canon appearance, which means that his previous encounters with Goku and the Z Warriors never technically happened. Based on what's already been revealed about the movie, it appears the film will reimagine Broly's origin story and give him a new reason to fight Goku and Vegeta. Frieza, Zarbon, and Dodoria will be integrated into his backstory as well.
