In the current landscape of Dragon Ball, Goku has become so powerful that he is able to channel god-like energy which he is able to use to defeat even the strongest mortal foe, yet he is still no match for the God of Destruction, Lord Beerus. There is, however, another earthbound fighter who had one ability Goku could never attain, and with that power, could have defeated Beerus in a matter of seconds. Unfortunately, Goku accidentally killed him.

Lord Beerus made his first appearance in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 1 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou. In the chapter, Beerus is searching for a being that was prophesied to eventually kill him, a being known as a Super Saiyan God. So, Beerus tracks down the few remaining Saiyans left in the universe, and one of them was on King Kai’s world—a Saiyan named Goku. When Beerus meets Goku he is entirely unimpressed even when Goku powers up to Super Saiyan 3. To defeat him, Beerus simply flicks Goku on the forehead with so much force that Goku is practically incapacitated after suffering a single, effortless blow.

Goku's Killing of the Carrotter May Have Doomed Earth

The world's best hope against Beerus was killed by Goku.

In Dragon Ball Chapter 51, Goku is battling Master Roshi in the World Martial Arts Tournament for a chance to be named the greatest fighter on the planet. However, in the middle of their fight, Goku transforms into a Great Ape under the light of the full moon and goes berserk, destroying the arena and nearly killing everyone in the vicinity. To stop the rampage, Roshi uses a Kamehameha blast to destroy the Moon, thereby stripping Goku of his Great Ape power and returning him to normal. While that was a solid, if over-the-top solution, Roshi, and by extension, Goku, committed murder when Roshi blew up the Moon, as there was someone living there prior to it being destroyed.

In Dragon Ball Chapter 17, Goku faces off against a villain known as the Carrotter, a human-sized bunny and gang leader with the power to turn anyone he touches into a carrot. While he was a formidable foe, Goku was able to defeat the Carrotter by pinning him to the end of his bo staff and extending the weapon to the Moon, where the Carrotter would live the rest of his days in exile. Since Lord Beerus proved his favorite attack when battling someone he thinks is beneath him is flicking them in the head, then it stands to reason he would do so if he ever fought the Carrotter, and would thereby be turned into a carrot. However, readers will never know whether the Carrotter could actually beat Beerus, because the Carrotter presumably died when Goku forced Roshi’s hand in destroying the Moon.

While Lord Beerus has proven himself to be an ally to Goku and the rest of the Z Fighters throughout the course of Dragon Ball Super, he is still wildly unpredictable, and could destroy the Earth on a passing whim. A threat like that is simply too great to have no defense against, and the Carrotter could have been Earth’s answer to Beerus should a potentially devastating situation arise. Unfortunately, Goku accidentally killed the Carrotter early in Dragon Ball, getting rid of one of Earth's greatest solutions to the problem posed by Beerus.
