In the world of Dragon Ball, the Gods of Destruction are deities that destroy planets and races. While there are 12 of these Gods of Destruction in existence—one for each known Universe—they are not always the most powerful beings in existence, although there are many that fail to measure up to their strength. What makes the Gods of Destruction a level down from the Supreme Kais and some of the Angels is that they are not all the same species and are actually beings turned divine individuals.

The main two members of this group of deities that fans of Dragon Ball have gotten to know well are Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7, and his twin brother Champa. However, during the Tournament of Power, the Gods of Destruction got a chance to show both their powers and weaknesses, proving that they are not quite the all-powerful beings that some thought.

Updated on July 11th, 2022 by Tanner Fox: Perhaps the single most important shounen anime franchise of all time, Dragon Ball set the standards for the genre and continues to be a massively important media collection decades after it first began. Loaded with ultra-powerful characters and known for over-the-top fight scenes that border on parody, despite its many imitators, Dragon Ball is one-of-a-kind.

Few franchises could claim to boast as many powerful characters as Dragon Ball, and, in fact, the concept of amassing power is central to the series' core. That said, not all characters were created equally, and here's how the best-of-the-best stack up relative to the imposing Gods of Destruction.

Dragon Ball Characters Stronger Than The Gods Of Destruction

Hit

Hit in Dragon Ball Super

Hit was the greatest assassin in the world of Universe 6. However, being a great assassin and being a danger to anyone he crosses does not do enough to make him a threat to someone like a God of Destruction in a one-on-one fight. Still, he has proven to be resourceful enough to be a danger to any of them. He did fight Goku on one occasion and actually won, albeit temporarily. This was a huge moment, but Goku has gained immense power since then and is miles above Hit now.

Hit not only has his assassin skills, but he is also a great martial arts fighter, which he put on display when battling Goku. He can also create duplicates of himself, become intangible, and manipulate time in some ways.

Vegeta

Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta Attack

Vegeta ranks only second after Goku as the most powerful fighter in Dragon Ball. As the Prince of all Saiyans, he has closed the gap between himself and Goku over the years and showed his immense powers in Dragon Ball Super. When it comes to the actual warriors, Vegeta is almost unmatched outside of Goku and Frieza when it comes to Universe 7.

He has battled Beerus and is helping to prove that the warriors in the Dragon Ball universe have not only closed in on the power levels of the Gods of Destruction, but, in some cases, might have surpassed it against many of them.

Goku

Dragon Ball's Goku.

Goku is the hero of Dragon Ball, and the story has told his journey as he becomes one of the most powerful warriors in the story. By the time Goku had reached the level of his Super Saiyan God transformation, there was not a fighter on the field that could match his power. While he has since become Super Saiyan Blue, the God transformation was still the most powerful.

The fact that Goku has grown in power to become a god himself in battle makes him one of the most powerful beings in existence, and, while he might not match up to some other Gods or Angels, he has proven to be a handful for many Gods of Destruction, and he might have surpassed the power of some of their ranks.

Gogeta

Dragon Ball's Gogeta.

Gogeta is formed by fusing the forms of Goku and Vegeta, and he is one of the most powerful characters to exist in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. His personality is more in line with Vegito, another fusion that appeared in the series. He is also overconfident, which is not always a good thing.

In Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, Gogeta was able to easily defeat the evil Janemba and took no damage at all from the attacks of the enemy. In Dragon Ball GT, once again, Gogeta was called on and was able to defeat Omega Shenron with little to no trouble. According to the guidebooks, Gogeta's power level is 2,500,000,000 and is a dozen times stronger than a Super Saiyan 4, making him a threat to a God of Destruction.

Vegito

Dragon Ball Vegito

Vegito is a mixture of the characteristics of both Goku and Vegeta. He has the body of Goku with the sharp eyes of Vegeta. He also shares a combination of their personalities, with Vegeta's cocky attitude and Goku's easygoing nature. He also shares the memories of both characters.

His power, when fused as a Saiyan, is Goku's power multiplied by Vegeta's. If those two warriors can fight on par with the Gods of Destruction, Vegito easily surpasses them. He has proven to be a match with Beerus and took him down in the manga.

Jiren

Dragon Ball Jiren.

Jiren is an honorable fighter from the Pride Troopers in Universe 11 who took part in the Tournament of power. The interesting thing about Jiren is that he was weak as a child and did not gain power until he grew into a man. He then worked hard and became the strongest warrior in all of Universe 11, surpassing Top.

To understand how his power compares to the Gods of Destruction, in the manga and anime, he was said to be a candidate to become a God of Destruction in Universe 11, putting him at the same level as those beings. Additional training will allow him to gain even more power than he has already shown.

Whis

Dragon Ball Whis

Whis is the Angel assigned to God of Destruction Beerus, and he trained Beerus himself. In the Dragon Ball world, this makes Whis more powerful than the God of Destruction to which he was assigned. He is also shown to be the fastest being in the universe and is possibly the most powerful Angel outside of his sister Vados.

Beerus has proven to be more powerful than a God of Destruction when he used just one chop to take down Beerus, and he also held off both Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta and Goku simultaneously. He is strong enough to hold off two of the universe's greatest warriors by just lifting one finger, proving how strong this Angel really is.

Vados

Vados Dragon Ball Super

Whis is very powerful, and fans of Dragon Ball know the immense power that the Angel holds. However, her sister Vados likely has her beat when it comes to sheer power. While Whis denies this, claiming years of gaining power himself, Vados obviously has had the same amount of time to build her strength.

Vados has the power of creation and destruction. She can also manipulate space and time and is capable of high-speed travel. The two siblings are evenly matched, but the one thing that remains obvious is that, if their hands were forced, they are more powerful than most—if not all—of the Gods of Destruction.

Grand Priest

Grand Priest Dragon Ball Super

The Grand Priest is the most powerful of all the Angels, which makes him more powerful than even the Gods of Destruction to whom the Angels serve. When it comes to Grand Priest, he not only serves a god, but he serves the most powerful god of them all in Zen-Oh, making him second in command to a being that can end all life with just a thought.

The Grand Priest is also the father of half of all the Angels, which puts him on an even higher level than many of the powerful Angels that Dragon Ball fans have seen expend massive amounts of power. Whis, who has shown to be overpowered, said that his power is only a portion of the power the Grand Priest holds.

Zen-Oh

Dragon Ball Zen-oh

There likely isn't a god in the Dragon Ball world that holds a candle to Zen-Oh. This is very impressive, as he looks like a child's playtoy and seems like the kindest character on a Saturday morning cartoon. However, he is not only powerful, but he's very scary because of his deceptive looks.

Gods of Destruction like Beerus and Champa cower in fear when he arrives and while he does not get involved in most fights, he loves to watch them. What makes him most powerful is that, while he rarely gets his hands dirty in a fight, he can wipe out everything in existence in only a mere moment with just a thought, making this little cute god the most destructive of all.

Dragon Ball Characters Weaker Than The Gods Of Destruction

Krillin

Krillin hurling a Destructo Disc in the Dragon Ball anime.

Krillin made his debut as the rival to Goku who ended up as one of the most powerful characters in Dragon Ball. However, unlike Goku, Krillin has always been one step behind.

However, that is not for lack of trying. He has a nice weapon in his Destructo Discs, and he's almost unmatched in most brawls... though he's still lost more fights than he's won. He has also perished many times over, although he always ends up coming back, making him, in the eyes of the Gods of Destruction, nothing other than a nuisance.

Frieza

Frieza from the Dragon Ball anime series.

One of the most impressive villains in Dragon Ball history, Frieza was a prodigy from the start.  However, as with many prodigies, Frieza's skills caused him to believe that he never needed to train as hard as others which allowed some other warriors to surpass him in pure power and strength. Imagine how powerful Frieza could have been with proper dedication and training to add to the already formidable powers.

Frieza should easily have been stronger than Goku. However, he lost due to a lack of training and discipline. What is important to understand is that Frieza did start working harder while in Hell to master his skills, so he might end up stronger than the Gods of Destruction, but it has not happened yet.

Gohan

Mystic Ultimate Gohan displaying his power in Dragon Ball Super.

Gohan was supposed to be the child that would grow up to take his father Goku's place. However, the problem with Gohan is that he is lackluster with his training, and this is keeping his power levels lower than they should be. He also seems to have no desire to ever master his Super Saiyan forms, which includes the God energy that could elevate his powers to a level to stand with the Gods of Destruction.

He was very powerful as a youngster and destroyed Perfect Cell, but that seems to be the extent of his power levels, and he just started to lessen in power after that. In Dragon Ball, it seems that he has all the promise in the world when he needs to do battle, but he chooses to just sit back and refuse to train at other times, lowering his power ceiling.

Dende

Dende smiling in Dragon Ball Z

It is almost hard to believe that Dende is a god based on his power levels; his main power is that of healing, so he does have a very necessary place in the world. However, as Kami's successor as the second guardian of Earth in the Dragon Ball world, he is nowhere near as strong of a fighter as even Kami was.

Dende has the power to create, modify, and resurrect dragon balls, which is important to the warriors who do have fighting skills, so his role as a guardian is more important than any overpowered abilities. Despite this, he is the weakest of the Gods and nowhere near the level of the Gods of Destruction.

Korin

Dragon Ball Korin

Korin is a cat that has trained many people in the mastery of martial arts. The character was actually designed after a sleeping cat, which is why the character's eyes are always closed. Korin is a god and was the first deity that Goku ever met in his Dragon Ball journey. He is 800 years old and is a strict teacher who demands decency as well as discipline in battle.

With that said, Korin is not a very strong character, and his only true power is the ability to sense ki. According to Korin, Goku had possessed more power than him by the time the warrior reached the 22nd World Tournament.

King Yemma

King Yemma sits in judgment in Dragon Ball Z

When it comes to judging a book by its cover, look no further than King Yemma. The ruler over all ogres and the judge of the deceased, he is huge, and his hand is close to the size of Goku himself. He also looks different than other ogres.

However, while his power levels are immense, they are nowhere near what Dragon Ball fans have seen the Gods of Destruction demonstrate. He was strong enough to keep control of a powerful Raditz when the being started to cause havoc in the afterlife, but there is a limit to his powers, and King Yemma admitted that he is not as strong as King Kai.

Chiaotzu

Dragon Ball Chiaotzu

The weakest fighter in the entire Dragon Ball franchise might be Chaoitzu. He is not intimidating at all, standing around three-feet tall with completely white skin and red cheeks. However, in the Dragon Ball universe, is best not to judge someone by how they look. Yet, this character can be failry accurately sized up based on his appearance alone.

He has psychic abilities, but this is nothing compared to other fighters, and he is nowhere as powerful as a God of Destruction. He is a kind character, and this doesn't always work to his advantage as a fighter, although it does make him loyal. However, when it comes to power, he ranks very low on the list of Dragon Ball characters.

Yajirobe

Dragon Ball anime's Yajirobe.

Yajirobe is a ronin, but, while most of those warriors are dangerous and relentless on the field of battle, he prefers sitting down to a nice meal rather than a fight. He is short and very much out of shape, putting him at a disadvantage in any intense fights. He is also more of a coward, as he prefers to hide rather than fight when the battle gets out of control.

There was one moment when Yajirobe battled Goku and he put on a great fight, which means that he is much more proficient than he appears to be, but that was one fight in a lengthy existence in Dragon Ball. There is only one real positive about Rajirobe; he did cut off Vegeta's tail in the Saiyan Saga, so there is at least one thing he can hang his hat on.

Piccolo

Picoolo looking serious in Dragon Ball Z.

Piccolo is persistent and has continued his training, so he should never be counted out. However, the fact is that he might have reached the limit of his powers when he fused with Kami—and, even after that, he was not able to even overpower Semi-Perfect Cell.

RELATED: 15 Reasons Piccolo Is Dragon Ball Z's Real Hero

Piccolo has battled characters like Gohan and Frost and measured up well with them. Yet, the fact is that Piccolo is less an honorable warrior than he is a tactical fighter, using sneak attacks and trying to outwit his opponents, rather than overpower them. He is a good fighter, but he is not on the level of the Gods of Destruction.

Broly

Broly from the Dragon Ball anime series.

Broly is an interesting warrior. He was born unnaturally powerful, and, even as an infant, he had a power level of well over 9,000. This makes it sound like there are not many Saiyans who could outpace his max potential, but that just isn't an accurate fact, and, at the end of the day, he is still way below his rival Saiyans.

There is also the fact that, when Broly returned as Bio-Broly, he was even less powerful than before. He is stronger than many characters in the Dragon ball world, but he is not even close to characters like Goku or Vegeta—no matter how powerful he appears to be.
