While it may seem obvious that a being such as Dragon Ball’s Frieza would elicit jealousy from even the strongest Avenger that Marvel Comics has to offer since his strength has grown beyond that of cosmically powerful deities, there is one particular ability within Frieza’s arsenal that would assuredly make a certain Avenger jealous.

Frieza made his first appearance in Dragon Ball chapter 247 by Akira Toriyama, and upon his debut, Frieza’s power level was no joke. While Frieza ended up being defeated by Goku later in this very saga, his immense strength was highlighted as he was responsible for killing powerful fighters such as Vegeta and Krillin like it was nothing. And the reason he was such a great threat is that he wielded power that the Z Fighters (other than Goku) just couldn’t compete with.

In Dragon Ball chapter 308 by Akira Toriyama, Goku attacks Frieza after the villain kills Vegeta right in front of him. Even though the Z Fighters already wished upon the Dragon Balls and effectively thwarted Frieza’s evil plan of becoming immortal, they were all still in mortal danger as Frieza became even more determined to kill all of them for daring to oppose his authority. However, before Frieza had the chance to kill any more of his allies, Goku launched a powerful strike against the villain. Unfortunately, in the early stages of this battle, it is clear that Goku was outmatched by Frieza, not just because the villain was physically stronger than the Saiyan when the fight began, but because he had an ability Goku couldn’t fathom—laser vision.

When thinking about Marvel heroes with laser vision, or some variation of that power, it is likely fans will think of Cyclops since shooting concussive blasts from his eyes is his one and only superpower. However, there is another hero who exhibited this ability in her own unique way: Captain Marvel. In Captain Marvel #32 by Kelly Thompson and Sergio Davila, Carol Danvers is fighting what appears to be an evil doppelgänger. She shoots photon blasts from her eyes because that was the only way to deliver the attack in that moment. While it was useful, Captain Marvel suffered a great deal of pain when channeling that amount of energy through her eyes, plus, she wasn’t able to see while using her energy projection in this way, which is a huge disadvantage in battle. This is a drawback that Frieza does not experience.

When Frieza uses his laser vision, he suffers no pain and can see the entire time, allowing him to redirect the blasts mid-stream. Since Captain Marvel found herself in a position where shooting blasts from her eyes meant the difference between life and death, it is likely she will have to use that particular ability again. Given that apparent inevitability, Captain Marvel would greatly benefit from having Frieza’s version of laser vision which suggests that Captain Marvel, who is arguably Marvel’s strongest Avenger, would be jealous of Dragon Ball’s Frieza.
