A new trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ gives fans a preview of the game's story mode, along with some of the new characters, including Android 21.

Back in June, Bandai Namco announced a new fighting game titled Dragon Ball FighterZ, which uses the tag-team mechanics from the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise. The game allows players to fight in teams of three with a roster that includes numerous Dragon Ball characters, such as Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin. Online modes let six players participate in a single fight. The game will also feature an original story that takes place after the ending of Dragon Ball Z.

Bandai Namco has now released a new story trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ, which you can watch in the space above.  The trailer begins with Bulma talking to the player character, who is revealed to be Goku with amnesia. The trailer reveals that the heroes of Earth mysteriously fell unconscious and an army of clones suddenly appeared. According to the trailer, the incidents are connected to Android 16 and a new character, Android 21, whose motives are not yet known. Whatever Android 21 is up to, it's something that will take all of the heroes to stop. It appears that the game's story will encompass many key characters from the anime, including characters who have long been dead like Nappa and the Ginyu Force.

The trailer reveals how the story mode works by explaining that the story is broken up into three arcs where the player must "link the Super Warriors." The player moves the character icons on a map while also strengthening their bond with the other heroes. The map looks similar to the board game format used in Dragon Ball Budokai 2.

Developed by Arc System Works, the 2.5D fighting game features a gameplay system that lets players call in "Assists" from their team members, which can help set up powerful combos. Each of the game's fighters are designed to have unique playstyles and movesets. While the gameplay mechanics deviate from previous Dragon Ball games, Dragon Ball FighterZ does allow players to increase their super meter by charging their Ki. The game also employs an auto-combo system that involves players tapping a button to use a preset combo.
