Dragon Ball FighterZ Will Hit Nintendo Switch In September

Bandai Namco's Dragon Ball FighterZ will release for the Nintendo Switch in September with a free SNES game as a pre-order bonus.

Bandai Namco's Dragon Ball FighterZ will launch on the Nintendo Switch in September. The 2.5D fighting game was originally released for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and the PC via Steam.

During Nintendo's presentation at E3 2018, the game made a slew of major announcements, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which will include every fighter in franchise history, Super Mario Party, and ports of the battle royale game Fortnite and Dragon Ball FighterZ. However, no date for FighterZ was revealed. What we do know is that players will be able to play the game with a single Joy-Con or the Nintendo Switch Pro controller.

Bandai Namco has announced that the Nintendo Switch port of Dragon Ball FighterZ will release on September 28. Fans who pre-order the game will receive early unlocks of Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta, as well as a free copy of 1993's Dragon Ball: Super Butoden, a classic game for the Super Nintendo console. At the time, Dragon Ball games had yet to become popular in America, so the game was only released in Japan and Europe. The copy included with FighterZ will be the Japanese version.

Developed by Arc System Works, FighterZ features a roster of 24 characters, including classic Dragon Ball Z characters, such as Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo. Newer characters, introduced in Dragon Ball Super, are also featured in the game, including Goku Black, Hit, and more. Four DLC fighters, Fused Zamasu, Super Saiyan Blue Vegito, Bardock, and Broly are already available, with four more to be announced in the coming months.

Inspired by the gameplay mechanics of the early installments of the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise, the game allows players to face off in 3-on-3 tag-team matches. Unlike most Dragon Ball games, which generally re-tell the story of the anime series, FighterZ centers around an original story.

Upon its release in January of this year, the game achieved widespread acclaim and was a massive success. FighterZ has already sold an impressive 2.5 million copies to become the fourth best-selling game in the Dragon Ball franchise, which is an astounding statistic, considering that over 40 Dragon Ball games have been released since 1986. So releasing a game as popular as FighterZ on the Nintendo Switch, the fastest-selling console in U.S. history, seems like a no-brainer for both Bandai Namco and Nintendo.
