Throughout the Dragon Ball series, Vegeta was always stuck in Goku's shadow. Since his first appearance when Goku, to when Goku was fighting Kid Buu when he couldn't, Vegeta was stuck with only being the second strongest Saiyan. Goku may be stronger than him, but Vegeta still has something he doesn't. Not Bulma or their kids, but Super Saiyan Blue Evolution.
Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is a more advanced form of Super Saiyan Blue. It's also the first form that Vegeta achieved before Goku. This is a form that we could be seeing a lot more of in the future, so here are ten facts about it that would be useful to know.
It's Similar To Super Vegeta
Super Saiyan Blue Evolution isn't exactly Super Saiyan Blue 2. One way you can tell is how there's no lighting like there is with Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation. It's better to think of this transformation as Super Saiyan Blue's equivalent of Super Vegeta.
In Dragon Ball Z, Vegeta first transcends the Super Saiyan state when he fights against Cell. He doesn't necessarily reach Super Saiyan 2, but this form is more powerful than a regular Super Saiyan. Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is like that. It's stronger than Super Saiyan Blue, but not quite strong enough to be Super Saiyan Blue 2.
It First Appeared In The Anime
Unlike some transformations in Dragon Ball, Super Saiyan Blue Evolution first appears in the anime. In the episode of Dragon Ball Super called "Body, Soul and Power Unleashed! Goku and Vegeta!", Vegeta breaks his own limits when he remembers his promise to Cabba.
Vegeta breaking through his limits is not unlike Goku when he achieved Ultra Instinct. Both of them were motivated by the people they wanted to protect. It shows that a Saiyan's true strength may lie entirely in the family they have.
It's Different In The Manga
Super Saiyan Blue Evolution eventually appears in the Dragon Ball Super manga, but it's different than it is in the anime. For one, Vegeta didn't achieve it in the manga for the main purpose of his family like the anime, but for his pride. He didn't want Goku to keep surpassing him, which is what motivated him to achieve the transformation.
It's also a different form altogether in the manga, called Perfected Super Saiyan Blue. Goku can access it, but only Vegeta reaches the evolved version of the transformation. Perhaps there's something special about Vegeta that allows him to access it and not Goku.
It Appears In Video Games
Not only does the form appear in the anime and manga, but it's also playable in several video games. In Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, the form is added to Vegeta's long list of techniques.
In Xenoverse 2, the player can also attain Super Saiyan Blue Evolved for themselves, apart from Vegeta. When specific conditions are met, players will be able to use this transformation in battles. Vegeta has yet to appear as playable with the transformation in Dragon Ball Fighterz, but there is still hope for him to.
It's One Of The Rare Forms Vegeta Achieves On Screen
Vegeta has had many transformations in Dragon Ball. There's Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan God, and numerous others. However, Vegeta achieves neither of those forms onscreen. Aside from Super Saiyan 4, the only time we see Vegeta first obtain a transformation is with Super Saiyan Blue Evolution.
Super Saiyan God Vegeta was first seen onscreen in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The first appearance of Vegeta's Super Saiyan transformation is when he was fighting Android 18, after he had already gained the form. It proves just how much trouble Vegeta was in to use a form right after obtaining it.
It Has Many Names
Officially, Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is called Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Evolved. Not only is this on the longer side of transformation names, but it was never called that in the anime. In fact, in the anime, it was never given a name at all.
It first got its name in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, but before that, fans didn't know what to call it. Super Saiyan Royal Blue was a popular name thrown around, along with Super Saiyan Beyond Blue. No matter what you call it, fans will likely understand what the name means from its vibrant blue colors.
It's Stronger Than Toppo
In the Tournament of Power, Vegeta and Toppo had a rivalry, since they were both considered the second best on their team, behind Goku and Jiren. This pushes them both to surpass one another, but ultimately, Vegeta comes out on top.
In the episode "Surpass Even a God! Vegeta's Sacrifice Strike!", Vegeta uses the same attack against Toppo that he used to sacrifice his life to stop Majin Buu. While it does force him out of the transformation, it demonstrates how much power Super Saiyan Blue Evolved has against Toppo.
It's Stronger Than Golden Frieza
After Frieza was brought back to life for the Tournament of Power, he revealed that he was training with the form while he was dead, giving him more of a grasp on its power. This might make him stronger than he was when he first got his golden form, but it doesn't make him stronger than Super Saiyan Blue Evolved.
In the episode "Most Heinous! Most Evil! Frieza's Rampage!", Golden Frieza and Super Saiyan Blue Goku demonstrate that they are relatively equal in power when they both punch each other at the same time. Since Super Saiyan Blue Evolved is more powerful than Super Saiyan Blue, it's safe to assume that it's more powerful than Frieza.
It's Equal To Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken
It's hard to gauge just how much of a power increase Super Saiyan Blue Evolution gives Vegeta. It's stronger than Toppo and Frieza, but what is the capacity of the power increase? It's easier to think of it as akin to Goku's Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken.
According to one of Dragon Ball Super's directors Megumi Ishitani, the form is indeed on par with Goku's transformation. This is evident when Goku and Vegeta used these forms to counter Jiren. That was something Goku in his base form had to team up with Frieza and Android 17 to do.
It's Weaker Than Jiren
Super Saiyan Blue Evolved is strong enough to stop Toppo and fight with Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken, but that doesn't make it strong enough to defeat Jiren. In the episode "To the Noble, Proud End! Vegeta Falls!", Jiren knocks Vegeta out of the Tournament of Power ring.
Vegeta wasn't in his Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form when he was eliminated, but it wouldn't have made much of a difference if he was. In the previous episode, called "The Approaching Wall! A Hopeful Final Barrier!", Vegeta used the form with Goku and Android 17 to fight Jiren, but he was able to beat all three of them.
