In honor of this year's Dragon Age Day, creator BioWare released two original short stories and teased some upcoming news about Dragon Age 4. The annual fan celebration of the fantasy role-playing series is held on December 4, with BioWare officially joining in on the festivities in 2019. With the franchise's last installment launching back in 2014, many fans are eager for updates on Dragon Age 4's development.

Announced back in 2018, Dragon Age 4 is planned as the next installment in BioWare's epic fantasy saga. While little information has been revealed about the upcoming entry, it is known that players will be traveling to the Tevinter Imperium region that was detailed in previous series entries. The elven outlaw Solas, introduced in Dragon Age: Inquisition and eventually revealed to be an ancient deity called the Dread Wolf, will be in Dragon Age 4 thanks to an official concept art reveal. Other details indicate players will assemble their own squad of unique companions, just like previous series entries and BioWare's sci-fi Mass Effect sister series. With the title absent from 2021's EA Play Live many fans are predicting an appearance at the upcoming Game Awards 2021 event. Currently, sources indicate that a 2023 release date for Dragon Age 4 seems likely based on recent developments.

In honor of Dragon Age Day 2021, BioWare has released two unique short stories while also hinting at further details about the game. Last year, the developer created four short stories taking place within the massive fantasy world of Dragon Age, and this year two more adventures follow suit. The first tale, Won't Know When, sees two Grey Warden monster hunters resting in-between encounters with the dreaded Darkspawn. The Eternal Flame, meanwhile, tells the tale of two necromancers who must give peace to a wailing spirit. Alongside these world-building tales, the Dragon Age team also teased news about the franchise's next installment will be revealed in 2022.

The Dragon Age series has introduced gamers to the fantasy world of Thedas and a huge collection of colorful companions, and Dragon Age 4 is set to continue that tradition. However, some fans believe that a different project could arrive before the franchise's full fourth installment. The success of the recent Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which remasters BioWare's classic cosmic trilogy, makes some believe that Dragon Age remaster may come before DA4. The series' first entry arrived in 2009 and was followed by a 2011 sequel, meaning both titles could greatly benefit from updated graphics and performance. While such as remake has not been teased by BioWare, it would serve as a logical follow-up to the studio's Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

For Dragon Age Day 2021, Bioware has expanded upon the fantasy franchise's unique world while also reaching out to its loyal fanbase. Dragon Age: Inquisition launched back in 2014, so fans are eagerly awaiting any news about the next game in the epic fantasy saga. While the celebration sadly lacks any official announcements, Dragon Age fans can rest assured that announcements will come in 2022.
