Dracula is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic figures to have ever appeared in television or film. Time and again, he’s made appearances, sometimes in the guise of a truly horrific creature, at others more than a little comedic.

In every instance, however, he definitely makes an impression on the viewer. In many important ways, the figure of Dracula has become synonymous with the vampire itself. Since the various iterations of Dracula are quite different, it’s fun (and useful) to think about which version a person resembles based on their zodiac signs.

Aries - Nosferatu (1922)

Nosferatu

Nosferatu is one of the most terrifying iterations of Dracula to appear in film. In this film, he’s known as Orlok (mostly to avoid copyright infringement). This silent film really leans into the horror aspect of the character, and Orlok is a creature driven by his lust and desire for blood. Anyone who has ever met an Aries knows that they can be very driven, so it makes sense that Orlok would fit into that mold.

Taurus - Shadow Of The Vampire (2000)

Shadow Of The Vampire (2000)

The character of Nosferatu would have a long life in the horror film, both in the sense that it inspired many others and in that it inspired a very chilling sort of film, Shadow of the Vampire, in which the actor playing Orlok is in fact a real vampire who feeds on his castmates. Willem Dafoe is uncanny in his performance, and he really does seem to embody the terrifying figure of the vampire. He’s also quite a driven and relentless sort of fellow, which means he’s very much like a Taurus.

Gemini - Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995)

Leslie Nielsen in Dracula Dead and Loving It

While Dracula is most often seen in horror films, every now and again he does appear in a comedy. This film, which is a spoof of many other horror films, has a Dracula who embodies the contradictions of horror and comedy. In that sense, he’s a bit of a split nature. Everyone knows that the Gemini is one of the most unstable signs of the zodiac, and that they have a tendency to be a bit divided in their personalities.

Cancer - Nosferatu The Vampyre (1979)

Nosferatu would have a long legacy in the history of the horror film, and he would see the screen again in this film, directed  by the great Werner Herzog. This film, which is something of a remake of the earlier one, has a much more nuanced portrayal of the titular character, who comes across as more moody and lonely than a simple demon. As a result, he fits nicely into the persona of the Cancer which, as a sign, can be a bit self-indulgent at times.

Leo - Universal Studios Dracula (1931)

Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula

As famous as many interpretations of Dracula have been, one of them looms above all of the others: Bela Lugosi’s. No matter how great or innovative anyone else is in the role, they must always contend with his presence.

The Leo is, of course, one of the most glory-hungry of all of the zodiac signs, and they always want to be the center of attention to anyone with whom they come into contact. Thus, they’re sure to identify with this most important of screen portrayals.

Virgo - Dracula 2000 (2000)

Dracula 2000

Gerard Butler was having quite a good time of it in the early 2000s, appearing in a wide variety of films. In this film, he plays the titular vampire, who pursues a relentless desire to track down the descendant of Van Helsing. There’s a certain type of intensity in Butler’s characterization, and he ably captures the obsessive nature of Dracula, something that the vampire definitely shares in common with more than a few Virgos out there.

Libra - Hotel Transylvania Dracula (2012)

Recent decades have seen a number of more comedic takes on Dracula, allowing him to become something more than just an embodiment of horror. In the Hotel Transylvania films, he comes across as someone who has a lot of devotion and caring for his daughter. This is a much more balanced sort of Dracula and, since the Libra is also a sign that yearns for equilibrium, this makes them quite a good match.

Scorpio - Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

Gary-Oldman-Bram-Stokers-Dracula

If there’s any film that could rival the Universal version in terms of creating an iconic Dracula, it’s this one, in which Gary Oldman turns in one of his finest performances. There’s a sinister and sumptuous beauty about this film, and there’s no denying that Oldman does an exemplary job of capturing Dracula’s many different personae. There’s also a perilous sort of darkness to this film, which makes it a perfect fit for the Scorpio.

Sagittarius - Hammer’s Dracula (1958)

Everyone knows that there’s something a little...unstable...about the Sagittarius. As a fire sign, it’s always a little hard to know what they’re going to do. If one has ever seen a Hammer film involving Dracula, one knows that the same holds true for them.

They really do seem to lean in on the gore and the outlandish. As sometimes campy and silly as they can sometimes be, however, they are truly a delight to watch, even in this supposedly more sophisticated era.

Capricorn - Dracula (1979)

Frank Langella as Count Dracula with his hypnotic stare

There’s an intensity to the ways that Capricorns move through the world, and they are often regarded as one of the most diligent signs of the zodiac. That’s certainly a good way of describing the Dracula of this film, in which Frank Langella portrays the titular character. There’s no doubt that Langella brings a lot of style and dedication to his portrayal, and he really seems to embody Dracula in a way few others have.

Aquarius - Dracula (2013)

Just when it seemed as if there were no more ways to interpret the character of Dracula, 2013 saw a new version come out, this time a television costume drama. It has to be said that, as stylish as this version is, there’s a lot about Dracula that remains something of an enigma, and the one season that the show aired didn’t really reveal too much about him in a meaningful way. It’s a strange show, to be sure, and there’s perhaps no stranger sign than the Aquarius.

Pisces - Dracula Untold (2014)

Luke Evans as Vlad in armor in Dracula Untold

Though he’s often seen as a villain, there have been a few attempts to show audiences that there’s a reason that Dracula became a blood-sucking monster. That is what happens in this film, which provides him a backstory that allows viewers to grasp why he did what he did. This Dracula is someone devoted to his family and, since Pisces are well-known for their loyalty to others and for their willingness to go the extra mile for those they love, they’re certainly a match.
