The idea of a shonen anime that centered around scientific experiments would sound ridiculous to anyone who's hearing about this concept for the very first time. However, it's the manner in which Dr. Stone manages to weave its elements around the concept of science that has truly helped the anime break new ground when it comes to offering a new shonen series that would be captivating from the get-go yet unique enough to keep fans hooked for the longest time.

Of course, it definitely helps that the characters in the show are also truly amazing in their own right and have managed to make each scene they're featured in riveting for different reasons. Their character arcs have definitely helped in accentuating the themes of the plot while simultaneously building their own individual personas. After the end of the manga's run in March 2022, and the third season of the anime not arriving until 2023, now is a good time to look at the main characters of the series and how compelling their arcs are.

Chrome

Chrome from Dr. Stone

The sorcerer from Ishigami Village might be a bit too chirpy for his own good, and a little less interesting than other characters overall as a result, but there's no denying the sheer amount of potential that Chrome has in the Stone World.

The impressive manner in which he managed to grasp the basics of science under Senku is proof enough of just how deceptively intelligent this seemingly goofy youngster really is.

Kinro

Kinro from Dr. Stone

A dedicated and strong-willed individual who never let his weaknesses get the better of him, Kinro is a character who definitely had a huge role to play during the initial run of the Dr. Stone anime.

While his role might've dwindled somewhat as the manga moved on to bigger and better things, there's still no denying the fact that when he manages to get over his nearsightedness by believing in the power of science it's an extremely memorable moment in the anime.

Yuzuriha Ogawa

Yuzuriha Ogawa from Dr. Stone

It's clear that Yuzuriha, Taiju, and Senku are going to be considered the three main focal points of the anime, which makes the lack of attention on the first two characters during the anime somewhat frustrating yet understandable.

Given the fact that the basics of science needed to be established for the current residents of the Stone World, it was clear that having the attention of the series shift towards Senku and other members of the Stone World would've been a vastly wise decision. However, this came at the cost of Yuzuriha as a character earlier in the earlier seasons.

Taiju Oki

Taiju Oki from Dr. Stone

Taiju Oki first comes off to the audience as an interesting — if rather clichéd — character, even though there wasn't a ton of emphasis placed on him in the early events of the anime.

However, Taiju inevitably progresses along with the series and it does justice to this great character, with the anime knowing how attached fans of the manga had grown to him.

Hyoga

Hyoga from Dr. Stone

While Hyoga might be another character who took a long time to begin to show his true colors in the anime, there's no denying the fact that he plays a major role overall.

People who are familiar with the manga have always known that his dynamic with Tsukasa is one of the most interesting to follow.

Suika

Suika from Dr. Stone

Initially coming off as a rather shy and reserved character, it's the manner in which Suika comes into her own after Senku manages to correct her eyesight problem that makes her character such a bright and refreshing light in the series.

Her adorable character design combined with her unique personality quirks truly make her an easy character to root for in the anime.

Kohaku

Kohaku from Dr. Stone

Honor and morality are something that one would assume to be lacking in the Stone World, but Kohaku shreds any notion of this with her brilliantly well-rounded personality.

The manner in which she's introduced and the actions she undertakes in a bid to protect her sister are all indications of an excellent character who forms a long-lasting bond with the protagonist of the series.

Tsukasa Shishio

Tsukasa Shishio from Dr. Stone

The antagonist of the series is definitely an interesting anomaly, whose thought process is actually something that most people would somewhat relate to... although the manner of its execution is a bit more contestable.

That being said, there's no denying that Senku's conflict with Tsukasa, and the Kingdom of Science facing off against the Tsukasa Empire, has always been a riveting prospect throughout the anime.

Gen Asagiri

Gen Asagiri from Dr. Stone

Characters from the old world tend to be quite interesting for a myriad of reasons, and Gen Asagiri is no exception to this golden rule. Initially coming off as nothing more than a selfish double agent who would apparently let the Kingdom of Science fail before it truly became a fearsome threat, Gen's common sense takes over when he realizes just how much potential the power of science really has in a world that is as tribal as it can get.

The sheer joy on his face after drinking cola for the first time in the Stone World is a powerful scene that clearly shows how his allegiances turn to the side of science. He shows amazing progression as a character, even in the earlier part of the anime.

Senku Ishigami

Senku Ishigami from Dr. Stone

If there's one thing that Senku's character should definitely be lauded for, it's the fact that he manages to be a hugely memorable anime protagonist despite the fact that he doesn't really fall into the clichés that most shonen protagonists find themselves confined by.

Senku is an arrogant, self-centered, and somewhat snide character... who also manages to be intelligent and loyal enough to portray himself as a stand-up person despite toeing the line sometimes. Given how groundbreaking and unique his character feels, it goes without saying that Dr. Stone has a pretty competent protagonist at the helm.
