The popular streamer Dr DisRespect is teaming up with the sportsbook and daily fantasy gambling company FanDuel, a recent video announcement confirmed. Dr DisRespect has been one of the most popular streamers, but he has had his share of controversy, including being permanently banned - with no explanation - from streaming on Twitch. Dr DisRespect's Twitch ban remains one of the internet's greatest mysteries, as the reason for his ban was never revealed.
Of course, Dr DisRespect managed to make a recovery and capitalize on the notoriety from his ban. In his own charismatic, ridiculous, over-the-top style he managed to turn the Twitch ban into an opportunity. In a sick and hilarious video, Dr DisRespect announced his return to livestreaming, this time on Youtube. But Dr DisRespect has also brought this same energy to his sponsor partnerships. Over the years, he has partnered with companies like G Fuel, Gillette, Mountain Dew, Asus, and Razer, often with his own wacky spin on the advertisements. But he may have outdone himself with this latest sponsorship.
In a Twitter post, Dr DisRespect revealed, as only he could, that he was partnering with FanDuel. The video sees him controlling and dropping a FanDuel "bomb" onto an unsuspecting city to apparently give it a new stadium. The plot of the video is unclear, which is usually the case for Dr DisRespect, but his bold attitude oozes through the screen. He tells the audience "you're welcome sports" and the closing card reads "sports have changed forever." While these statements may seem hyperbolic, his track record with other sponsorships suggests that FanDuel is, at minimum, going to see a bump in new users.
This partnership between Dr DisRespect and FanDuel is another perfect marriage between gaming and streaming culture, and the world of traditional sports. First taking steam when Twitch began to broadcast NFL games, including some playoff games this year, traditional sports are taking a greater interest in crossing over with the younger audience that streamers and streaming platforms have captured. It appears FanDuel is adding its name to that list.
Of course, FanDuel is hardly a traditional sports enterprise like the NFL. Sports gambling is a relatively new, legal activity, with states passing laws in the past few years to regulate this burgeoning industry. Sites like FanDuel offer both sportsbook and daily fantasy services to avid gamblers and sports fans alike, growing as sports gambling becomes more accepted. Still, it is a fairly fringe industry that is trying to make a name for itself and gain recognition. Which makes it a perfect partner for a celebrity as brash and out there as Dr DisRespect.
