My 600-lb Life season 5 aired some of the series' most powerful episodes, including Doug Armstrong's, but what happened to Doug after the cameras stopped rolling is even more interesting. The TLC docuseries showcases the journeys of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan's patients, as they travel to Houston, Texas to be put under his care. While working with "Dr. Now," patients typically follow strict diet and exercise plans, in order to try and qualify for bariatric surgery. Cast members who shed enough pounds may minimize the health risks associated with obesity.

My 600-lb Life viewers met Doug at his heaviest. He weighed nearly 700 pounds when he was introduced on the series. Thankfully, Doug's journey with My 600-lb Life's Dr. Younan Nowzaradan didn't have a heartbreaking end. In fact, his episode documented a fruitful beginning. After some difficulties with his program during the process with the doctor, Doug was able to lose a significant amount of weight. He qualified for weight loss surgery, and had excess skin removed, all over the course of a few years. Though his journey was a long one, it was beneficial to his overall health, and proved to be incredibly interesting to watch.
