WARNING: Minor spoilers for Timeless #1 ahead!

A teaser for the new Timeless #1 issue from Marvel Comics, featuring Kang the Conqueror, hints at the Strange Academy student Doyle Dormammu finally coming into his power and defeating his evil father, the Dread Dormammu. A battle between Doyle and his father has been hinted at since the start of Strange Academy through a series of visions and time travel experiences Doyle has experienced, and it seems like Marvel is finally revealing exactly how Doyle could defeat his father.

Doyle Dormammu is just one of several Strange Academy students who come from a lineage of evil families, but Dormammu is definitely the most evil parent of a student that the Academy has. Doyle has proven himself to be a caring, compassionate, intelligent (and overly cocky) young man who is truly trying his very best to avoid becoming anything like his wicked father, who is the tyrannical and demonic ruler of The Dark Dimension. The young Dormammu has grown quite close to his classmate Calvin, and has also entered into a romantic relationship with the powerful student Emily Bright, so at this point he has a lot to lose if Dormammu tries to attack his school (as was predicted in a vision shown to Doyle).

In a new teaser image from the upcoming Timeless #1 - illustrated by Kev Walker and Kael Ngu with writing by Jed MacKay - Doyle is shown wielding the Twilight Sword against the Lord of Chaos to defeat him. The Timeless event follows Kang the Conqueror and focuses on him "waging a war against the timeline," when a parallel timeline threatens to destroy everything Kang has worked for. One of the timelines he will apparently travel to is he one where Doyle Dormammu beats his father while using the Twilight Sword. In the pages of Strange Academy, Doyle has already seen a vision of Dormammu destroying the entire academy in the future, and has also traveled to a future timeline where Doyle is evil and fighting against his former classmates. So the questions remains, what will happen to Doyle after he defeats his father?

With teaser image from Timeless #1

The reference to the Twilight Sword could be referring to one of two ultra-powerful weapons in Marvel canon. The first, and less likely one, was the sword used by Annihilation and Genesis in Amenth during the X of Swords event, and was responsible for the island of Okkara being split into Krakoa and Arakko. But the more likely option is that he is using the Twilight Sword created by the Asgardian fire demon Surtur, because the sword Doyle is wielding seems to be imbued with flame powers. This one was forged from the Burning Galaxy (powered by the destruction of the Korbinites worlds, including the home world of Beta Ray Bill) and has since been used by Loki, Morgan LeFay, and most recently Beta Ray Bill himself. It remains to be seen how Doyle gets his hands on the Twilight Sword, but it is clear from the history of the weapon that it could destroy Dormammu if given the chance.

Perhaps Dormammu will destroy the Strange Academy in the near future (as predicted by Voodoo priestess Miss Hazel), causing Doyle to fight and defeat his father, before taking his place as the ruler of the Dark Dimension? If all the visions and futures Doyle has seen were to be on the same timeline, this progression would make sense, but one still has to hold out hope that Doyle will find a way defeat the Lord of Chaos without filling the vacuum left by his destruction. Make sure to pick up Timeless #1 to see Doyle Dormammu's future and his deadly battle with his father, the Dread Dormammu.
