Does Dora & The Lost City Of Gold Have A Post-Credits Scene?

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie

Paramount's Dora and the Lost City of Gold adapts Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer animated TV show to live-action - but does it have a post-credits scene setting up a sequel? Hollywood has taken to adapting animated movies and TV series to live-action for big screen outings, like Disney's The Lion King, and another of these is Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

The movie is set 10 years after the TV show, as a 16-year-old Dora (Isabela Moner) is sent to live with her cousin Diego (Jeff Wahlberg) in California and attend public school. However, when Dora, Diego and two of their classmates - Sammy (Madeleine Madden) and Randy (Nicholas Coombe) - are kidnapped by treasure hunting mercenaries, they'll have to go on an adventure through the jungle to find Dora's parents, Cole (Michael Peña) and Elena (Eva Longoria). The Dora and the Lost City of Gold movie trailers have teased an Indiana Jones-style adventure for fans of Dora the Explorer.

Now that Dora and the Lost City of Gold is hitting theaters around the world, moviegoers may be wondering whether they need to stick around until the very end of the film's one hour and 42-minute runtime for sequel set-up. Dora and the Lost City of Gold does NOT have a post-credits scene, but it does have a fun surprise at the end of the credits for fans of the Dora the Explorer TV show. It's always worth watching the credits to get an idea of who had a hand in making the movie, but in the case of Dora, there's no essential sequel set-up viewers need to stay and watch.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether Dora and the Lost City of Gold gets a sequel at all, since none has been given the green light by Paramount Players and Nickelodeon Movies. There's certainly room for more adventures with Dora, Diego and their friends. With a whole world to explore, future Dora movies could head to other locations than the lost Inca city of Parapata that's featured in The Lost City of Gold. A potential Dora and the Lost City of Gold follow-up likely depends on how successful this film turns out to be.

Thankfully for fans of the live-action movie, Dora and the Lost City of Gold reviews have been largely positive so far, and audiences seem to enjoy the mix of nostalgia and new elements introduced. Still, the studio will have to factor in box office revenue when deciding on a sequel. But since the Dora and the Lost City of Gold budget was reportedly a mere $49 million, the film doesn't have a terribly high bar to clear to be determined a financial success.

While it remains to be seen if Paramount and Nickelodeon move forward with a Dora and the Lost City of Gold sequel, fans checking out the movie in theaters simply need to know there's no post-credits scene - though there is a surprise for moviegoers who stick around until the very end of Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
