Doom Patrol season 4 will feature a new villain, with The Flash and Heroes star Sendhil Ramamurthy joining the HBO Max drama. One of HBO Max's most beloved DC TV shows is almost back, as Doom Patrol is roughly two months away from kicking off season 4. While based on a lesser-known DC property, Doom Patrol has become one of Warner Bros.'s most critically-acclaimed superheroes in the last few years from executive producer Greg Berlanti.

While Doom Patrol season 4 wrapped production in mid-August, the new season will pick up where season 3 left off as the team is heading to the future. After exploring time travel in Doom Patrol season 3, the new season will get even deeper as they face an "unwelcome surprise" that will force the heroes to come face-to-face with their "imminent demise." According to HBO Max's official synopsis, Doom Patrol season 4 will force the characters to decide if their own happiness is more important than the fate of the whole world. Unlike previous seasons, HBO Max is splitting up the show when it returns as Doom Patrol season 4, part 1 will premiere in early December and run until January 5 before airing part 2 some time in 2023.

With less than two months to go, Doom Patrol season 4 will see the arrival of a new DC Comics villain. TVLine reports that Sendhil Ramamurthy, whose credits include Heroes and The Flash, is set to recur as Mr. 104, who is described as a “charming and mysterious man of many elements.” This is the second DC antagonist Ramamurthy has portrayed after he starred in The Flash season 6 as Ramsey Rosso, a.k.a. Bloodwork. It's unclear when Mr. 101 will debut in Doom Patrol season 4.

Who Is Doom Patrol's Mr. 104

While Mr. 104 may be obscure to the mainstream audience, Ramamurthy's new DC character is a canonical Doom Patrol villain. Created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani in September 1965, Mr. 104's was initially known as Mr. 103 before taking on his later title. However, his actual name is Jonathan Dubrovny, although it's unknown if the TV version on Doom Patrol will be called that. In the comics, Mr. 104 is a brilliant bio-chemist whose life changed after he suffered a mental collapse and has the power of molecular reconstruction, allowing him to change into different elements.

It's possible this is the character that the Doom Patrol will face in the future timeline, but that remains to be seen. Another big mystery that is surrounding Doom Patrol currently is whether or not season 4 will be its last one, given the massive shake-ups happening at HBO Max ever since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger was completed. Even though recent reports have suggested Titans is safe on the HBO-branded streaming service, time will tell if Doom Patrol will get picked up for another season. So far, nothing about Doom Patrol season 4 seems to imply that they are setting it up as the show's final year, which may strengthen its season 5 chances. But until HBO Max makes a decision, Ramamurthy's Mr. 104 can be seen on Doom Patrol season 4, part 1, which premieres its first two episodes on Thursday, December 8.
