HBO Max has unveiled the first Doom Patrol season 2 trailer. The offbeat superhero show debuted on the DC Universe streaming service in 2019, where it was met with praise from critics and audiences alike. The show joined the streaming platform's lineup of superhero shows, which now includes Titans, Harley Quinn, and Swamp Thing, which was cancelled after just one episode. Doom Patrol will be the only DC Universe show to transition to HBO Max's service, dropping its season 2 episodes on both platforms.

Doom Patrol follows an eclectic team of superheroes with traumatic pasts who investigate the world's most peculiar phenomena. The team includes the likes of Robotman/Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser), Crazy Jane/Jane Morris (Diane Guerrero), Elasti-Woman/Rita Farr (April Bowlby), Negative Man/Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer), Cyborg/Victor Stone (Joivan Wade), and their leader Chief/Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton). The first season focused on exploring each team member's troubled past as they worked together in order to defeat their sinister enemy, Mr. Nobody/Eric Morden (Alan Tudyk), and rescue Chief. The Doom Patrol season 1 finale set up a variety of avenues the series could explore in season 2, especially after its penultimate episode revealed the show's true villain.

Doom Patrol Season 2 Poster

The official synopsis for Doom Patrol season 2 reads:

DC’s strangest group of heroes — Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — are back again to save the world. That is, if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally. Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members of the Doom Patrol now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.

Doom Patrol season 2 will include the introduction of Dorothy, the Chief's daughter, who appears to pose a threat to the team and the world as a whole. It was announced that Abigail Shapiro will be stepping into the role for season 2. Though Dorothy appears to be the main threat of season 2, there is always a chance that Mr. Nobody could return to cause more trouble for the team, considering he's been an ongoing threat in the comics for years.

In an overcrowded genre, especially on television, the series has managed to stand out from the rest of the pack of superhero shows. The series has a terrific blend of humor and heart, never taking itself too seriously when things get outlandish or zany. The cast has been firing on all cylinders and the storytelling has been engrossing and endlessly entertaining. This new trailer should not only remind fans that season 2 is right around the corner, but should also remind them how colorful and unique the series is. Luckily, fans won't have to wait too long to watch Doom Patrol season 2. The series will return on HBO Max and DC Universe later this month with three brand new episodes, followed by one new installment each week after.
