The Doom Patrol is back with a brand-new style and an alternate cover is providing a closer look at their new threads. A variant from Unstoppable Doom Patrol writer Dennis Culver gives fans a glimpse at the revamped appearance of the World's Strangest Heroes.Of all the teams in the DC Universe, the Doom Patrol is by far one of the oddest and most unconventional. Founded by Niles Caulder, aka the Chief, the Doom Patrol began as a fairly straightforward team of misfits who fought powerful villains. However, after their reinvention in the late 1980s during Grant Morrison's run, the Doom Patrol's adventures became much more outlandish, taking on threats such as a band of superpowered Dadaists or a world founded on contradictions. Though the Doom Patrol has been absent for some time, DC Comics revealed that the team would be returning with a new series as part of its Dawn of DC initiative.Related: Did DC Just Spoil Its Next Universe-Shaking Big Bad?And to help hype up the oddball crew's return, the Doom Patrol's new writer is teasing fans with a cover that he drew himself. In a post on Twitter, Dennis Culver, writer for the upcoming series Unstoppable Doom Patrol, revealed his writer-drawn cover in honor of Doom Patrol’s fourth season premiering on HBOMax. Unstoppable Doom Patrol's colorist, Brian Reber, helped bring Culver's image come to life. The variant shows off the new lineup of the team, which consists of three of its oldest members, Robotman, Negative Man, and Elasti-Woman. Fan-favorite Crazy Jane is there as well, in her new personality known as the Chief. The team is also joined by two as-of-yet unnamed members. The true appeal of the cover is the costumes the team wears, with their matching theme of black, gold, and white colors.

The Doom Patrol Is Back With A Brand-New Look

It’s been a while since the DC Universe has seen the Doom Patrol in their own starring role. Sure, they’ve made guest appearances as recently as Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, but their last self-title series ended with Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds several years back. Fans of the weird, but lovable, team should be thrilled to see the group back in action. Especially since it looks like they're returning to their more superhero roots.

Fans of the Doom Patrol may recall that each member has their own unique style. Elasti-Woman preferred more traditional superhero outfits while Robotman and Negative Man are more comfortable with their jackets. The new designs for the Doom Patrol acknowledge the style of each member while also giving them a theme that brings them together. The group of oddities may not be the most conventional team, but they are superheroes and this new look goes a long way towards communicating that. Fans can see the new outfits on Culver and Reber's variant for themselves when Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1 releases March 1, 2023.
