On the heels of The Ancient Gods - Part Two's release, id Software developers have confirmed DOOM Eternal will receive more updates later in the year. Barring typical patches, the studio's post-launch support for the latest DOOM entry began in October 2020 with the launch of The Ancient Gods - Part One, a story expansion that added even more flavor to the narrative players experienced in the base game.

In addition to story content, the first episode for The Ancient Gods introduced new enemy types and three previously unseen levels. The Ancient Gods - Part Two similarly added to the overarching experience, effectively closing the book on the Slayer arc that id Software began exploring five years ago in DOOM (2016). Fans who jump into the newly released Part Two DLC can also expect to try their hand at the Doom Slayer's new sledgehammer weapon, the Hellbreaker. Id Software's post-launch plans for DOOM Eternal do not end with The Ancient Gods content, though.

In a video message shared via id Software's official Twitter account, executive producer Marty Stratton and game director Hugo Martin thanks fans for their ongoing support of DOOM Eternal. Near the end of the video, the two developers confirmed "more DOOM Eternal updates" will launch sometime later this year. A specific release date didn't garner mention, nor did Stratton and Martin offer insight into what exactly the updates may entail.

New updates could give rise to the debut of all manner of new content. One free update late last year, for instance, brought the Super Gore Nest Master Level and the Ultra Nightmare difficulty into the mix. It's possible future updates will culminate in the launch of similar free additions.

One piece of news fans are especially looking forward to concerns next-gen upgrades for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Id Software shared cursory details about such a release several months ago, but nothing else of note has surfaced about the ports since then. The shooter is able to take advantage of the new hardware without any extra bells and whistles, however. Notably, weeks ahead of the console's arrival, hands-on previews demonstrated the Xbox Series X's ability to boot up DOOM Eternal in approximately five seconds.
