Bethesda's upcoming sequel to the 2016 DOOM reboot, DOOM Eternal, is one of 2020's most anticipated games, and many fans awaiting the game's release may want to know how long DOOM Eternal is. A leaked early copy of the game appears to have revealed just that and more, including the number of levels in DOOM Eternal.

Unveiled at E3 2018, DOOM Eternal promises more of the fast-paced gameplay and over-the-top storytelling found in its predecessor. DOOM Eternal gameplay features several new tools for players to blaze through demon hordes, like the "meat hook" grappling hook, used to close gaps with enemies and to make moving around the environment easier. DOOM Eternal's Crucible sword is another notable new addition, allowing for even flashier, health-granting Glory Kill finishing moves.

A new leak has revealed how long this demon destruction could last. DOOM World forum user Wilke recently posted a screenshot of a video from YouTube user Kaido, who had apparently been accidentally mailed an early copy of DOOM Eternal and was revealing story and gameplay information in the video's comments. Kaido's video has since been taken down, but not before they shared plenty of details about DOOM Eternal, including the number of levels in the game.

DOOM Eternal has 13 levels, according to Kaido, which is the same number as the 2016 reboot. But while DOOM's average completion time came in at around 14 and a half hours, according to player-submitted times on HowLongToBeat, DOOM Eternal could be much longer. In an interview at QuakeCon 2019, id Software Executive Producer Marty Stratton told QConForums.com that DOOM Eternal could take between 18 and 22 hours to finish "on a pretty complete playthrough," but he also noted it's hard to gauge how long most players will take to beat the game once it's released.

While Stratton said DOOM Eternal is longer than DOOM, it's unclear how long the story itself will be for players not looking to do that kind of "pretty complete" run. HowLongToBeat lists DOOM as taking anywhere between 11 and a half and 25 and a half hours, on average, depending on level of completion. DOOM Eternal will likely exhibit a similar range of playtimes based on player skill and on whether players hunt for DOOM Eternal's hidden secrets, but fans won't know exactly how long the game takes until it's available to a wider range of players.

Update: DOOM Eternal reviews report a playtime around 15 to 16 hours, but, as stated previously, this will likely vary from player to player.
