Olivia Wilde debuted the first teaser for her second directorial feature Don't Worry Darling and it looks like Florence Pugh and Harry Styles are madly in love. Wilde debuted her first project as director in 2019, releasing Booksmart to critical acclaim. That film starred Beanie Feldstein and Katilyn Dever as two teens on the cusp of leaving for college, following them through one wild night. Wilde is going in a new direction with Don't Worry Darling, though, which is said to be a psychological thriller that revolves around an embattled 1950's housewife.

Pugh will star as the housewife, Alice, while Styles is Jack, her husband. The only known plot details tease Alice discovering a dark secret that upends her life, while Jack harbors his own share of secrets, too. Wilde, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, and Nick Kroll also star in the film. Originally, both Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson were slated to star, but Wilde reportedly axed LaBeouf from the film while Johnson was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with another project. Styles replaced LaBeouf, while Johnson's role went to Layne, who previously starred in If Beale Street Could Talk and The Old Guard.

While little is known about the plot of the film, Wilde is slowly beginning to give audiences a peak behind the curtain. The actress turned director debuted a new teaser for the film on her Twitter today. In the clip, it sounds like Pugh's character is singing an ominous song. She can also be seen sitting poolside with a 50's style hairdo while cacophonous strings play in the background. Images flash across the screen, including one of Styles and Pugh having an intense makeout session, before ending on a chilling image of Pugh's head wrapped in plastic. Check out the teaser below:

While Booksmart was a near pitch-perfect teen comedy, Wilde's new direction looks to be just as good for completely different reasons. A first look image from Don't Worry Darling teased Pugh's housewife, but just what exactly she's worried about remains a mystery. From the teaser, it certainly looks like not everything is as it seems in the idyllic world that is projected by the 50's, but it's unclear if this is due to something in Alice's head or if the world at large is messing with her mind.

Don't Worry Darling is exciting for a number of reasons. The cast alone is stellar, but seeing where Wilde goes next with her directing career is also something to look out for. Additionally, Styles has not had the chance to flex his acting chops fully yet, but Don't Worry Darling will be one of two films the actor stars in next year. The other is My Policeman, a romantic drama film about a police officer struggling with his sexuality in 1950's England. Don't Worry Darling is currently slated to hit theaters on September 23, 2022.
