Florence Pugh and Harry Styles star in the trailer for director Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling. Don't Worry Darling is Wilde's directorial follow up to 2019's beloved coming-of-age comedy Booksmart, starring Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein. For her second film in the director's chair, Wilde chose to go in a different direction, with Don't Worry Darling being a psychological thriller that boasts a unique look and setting. The film is written by siblings Carey and Shane Van Dyke, who previously penned The Silence and Chernobyl Diaries, as well as Katie Silberman, one of the writers of Booksmart.
Don't Worry Darling features a stellar cast led by Pugh and Styles, who also share the screen with Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Timothy Simons, and Wilde. The plot follows Alice (Pugh), who lives in an experimental 1950s utopian society with her husband Jack (Styles). While the husbands spend their days at Victory Project Headquarters, run by CEO Frank (Pine), their wives are allowed to enjoy the luxuries provided by the community. But, as cracks in the idyllic facade appear, Alice begins to question the sinister motives at play.
The trailer for Don't Worry Darling, shared on YouTube by Warner Bros. Pictures, offers stunning visuals while highlighting the cast's performances. Initially, the trailer establishes the relationship between Alice and Jack while also showing viewers the 1950s community the film exists within. Don't Worry Darling then shows Frank as a motivational life coach of sorts, as his narration helps build the facade before he's seen telling the residents that they are "changing the world." However, as Alice sees that things are amiss, the trailer shifts into a more decidedly terrifying tone. The trailer for Don't Worry Darling was first shown to attendees last week during CinemaCon, where it received applause from the crowd. However, while audiences seemed to enjoy the trailer, the presentation was overshadowed by a bizarre occurrence when an unidentified person placed an envelope on stage for Wilde. Reports later confirmed that Wilde was served custody papers from her ex-fiance, Jason Sudeikis, live on stage during the film's presentation.
Don't Worry Darling's impressive visuals and intrigue-inducing trailer have given potential viewers plenty to mull over, questioning what really could be going on in the film. However, the film doesn't release until later this year, giving plenty of time for the mystery surrounding the film to grow. Don't Worry Darling is currently slated to hit theaters on September 23.
