Robert Downey Jr. debuts as a new version of Doctor Dolittle, but does Dolittle have a post-credits scene setting up a sequel? After wrapping up his time as Tony Stark aka Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe last year with Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr's first film coming off that success is Dolittle. In the family-friendly adventure movie, Downey Jr stars as Dr. John Dolittle, a doctor who can talk to all manner of animals - from bugs to ocean creatures. In Dolittle, the titular character must go on a perilous journey to track down a mythical fruit in order to save the Queen of England.

As seen in the Dolittle movie trailers, Downey Jr. is joined by an all-star cast of voice actors who bring to life the various animals who are Dolittle's most trusted companions. There's Emma Thompson as the macaw Polly, Rami Malek as the gorilla Chee-Chee, John Cena as the polar bear Yoshi, Kumail Nanjiani as the ostrich Plimpton, Octavia Spencer as the duck Dab-Dab, Tom Holland as the dog Jip and Craig Robinson as the squirrel Kevin. The more recent Dolittle trailer even revealed a dragon appears in the adventure film. With such a talented cast, Dolittle seems poised to be a franchise-starter, but does it tease a sequel with a post-credits scene?

With Dolittle hitting theaters this weekend, moviegoers may be wondering whether they need to stick around for any credits scenes or teases. In fact, Dolittle DOES have a post-credits scene. Specifically, it has a mid-credits scene located after the initial portion of the credits, but nothing at the very end. Although the credits are always worth watching to get an idea of who had a hand in making a film, Dolittle audiences should only expect the mid-credits scene.

Without spoiling what occurs in the Dolittle credits scene, it's possible it operates as setup for a potential sequel. However, it also works as one extra joke included in Dolittle before the movie officially concludes. Certainly, the ending of Dolittle leaves plenty of room for further adventures with the doctor and his friends. Considering Downey Jr. and the rest of the voice cast involved in Dolittle, it's possible Universal will want to continue this family-friendly franchise with additional outings. However, whether Dolittle is successful enough to warrant a sequel remains to be seen.

As of this writing, Dolittle movie reviews have been largely negative, with the film holding a 13 percent Rotten score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. While it's possible that Dolittle will connect more with casual audiences, particularly children, it remains to be seen whether that would be enough to prompt Universal to greenlight a sequel. For now, all viewers checking out the movie need to know is that Dolittle has a mid-credits scene, but nothing at the very end of the credits to stick around for.
