As the OnePlus 9 inches closer to release, there's one big question hanging in the air — is it going to come with a charger in the box? Ever since Apple's decision to not include a charger with the iPhone 12 last year, other companies in the Android space have been quick to follow suit. They poke fun at Apple for its ludicrous decision to not give its customers a free charger with their $1000 smartphone, but just a few months later, they do the exact same thing.
A perfect example of this came with the Galaxy S21. Samsung was quick to make jokes about the lack of a charger with the iPhone 12, but leading up to the S21's release, those jokes stopped. And, as everyone now knows, the Galaxy S21 launched in January with no charger to be found. Is OnePlus going to follow in these footsteps?
Thankfully, that's not at all what's happening with the OnePlus 9 series. Someone in the OnePlus Forums made a comment about how new phones these days launch without chargers, but shortly after this, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau quickly responded with, "Don't worry about it. We have the charger inside the box." So, yes, the OnePlus 9 comes with a charger — just like all past OnePlus phones before it.
Yes, The OnePlus 9 Will Ship With A Charger
While it may seem a bit silly to have to address a topic like this, it's a real uncertainty when buying a new smartphone in 2021. Some come with a charger, others don't, and it's not always clear where a phone falls into either of those two categories. Especially in the case of OnePlus, knowing that a charger is still included in the box is a bigger deal that some other devices. OnePlus has made massive progress with its charging tech in recent years, so putting that behind another optional purchase would sting particularly bad.
Just look at last year's OnePlus 8 lineup. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro launched in the first half of 2020 with 30W charging, but just a few months later, the OnePlus 8T debuted with 65W charging. This is an area OnePlus has targeted a lot more aggressively than many of its competitors, so knowing that charging bricks will still be included with the OnePlus 9 series at no added cost is tremendous news. Whether the OnePlus 9 sticks with 65W charging or makes another upgrade to something even faster, just having the charging adapter included for free is a great perk to have when the OnePlus 9 launches on March 23.
