Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Halloween Ends!

Halloween Ends officially concludes the conflict between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode while answering whether or not "The Shape" lives to see another day. Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie has been dealing with terror at the hands of Michael Myers for over 40 years, but the movie was meant to bring an end to the pair's story. Though it succeeds in ending the story at the center of the newest Halloween timeline, Michael Myers' fate might not be so cut and dry.

Before David Gordon Green's Halloween reboot trilogy comes to an end, Laurie and Michael Myers have one more epic faceoff. Despite a nerve-wracking back and forth, the beloved Final Girl from 1978 gets the upper hand again, and this time, it's for good. Michael Myers dies in Halloween Ends as Laurie takes every opportunity to kill the masked madman while ensuring there's no chance of his return. She also receives help from not only her granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak) but the entire town of Haddonfield.

How Does Michael Myers Die In Halloween Ends?

Michael Myers and Laurie Strode fighting in Halloween Ends

Following Corey Cunningham's (Rohan Campbell) attempted attack on Laurie, Michael Myers reunites with his old foe in her new home. Michael seemingly wants his mask and knife back, but more importantly, it leads him to the inevitable: a final Laurie vs. Michael Myers showdown. Like in 2018's Halloween and its sequel Halloween Kills in 2021, a better-equipped Laurie outsmarts Michael Myers before the pair have a violent fight in the kitchen. It concludes with Laurie pinning Michael on the kitchen countertop with knives to the hands. She then slips off his mask, slicing him across the throat. Granted, trying to kill Michael Myers is never that easy. He responds by pulling a hand free and attempts to choke Laurie before Allyson comes to her rescue, breaking Michael's arm. The last-second rescue is common with the Strode women considering Allyson saving her mother in Halloween and Karen repaying the favor in Halloween Kills.

To finish the job, Laurie cuts Michael Myers' wrist, holding his hand as he bleeds out. Despite Michael being dead this time, Laurie wants more, so she convinces the Haddonfield police to allow a procession through town. Allyson and Laurie drive through town with Michael Myers' unmasked body strapped to the roof of their car, with the rest of the town parading behind. The procession leads to the local junkyard where Corey worked. The crowd then carries Michael up to a piece of machinery before Laurie pushes his body into an industrial shredder, which significantly prevents any chance of his return after Halloween Ends.

Could Michael Myers Return In Future Halloween Movies?

With Michael Myers' decimated body to the point that nothing is left to revive, the Halloween immortality debate is over. Though he was clearly more than an ordinary man considering everything he lived through in the past four decades, Laurie finds a way to end Michael Myers forever. Unless Halloween reboots yet again, there's no sensible chance of The Shape's return. That said, there are other ways the Halloween franchise could bring back Michael Myers.

One option would be to investigate a Michael Myers prequel, investigating the years before 1978. A second option stems from Corey and his copycat connection to Michael through their direct encounter. Whether Michael passed some kind of evil inside of Corey or unleashed something that was already inside the young man, the killer had the power to manipulate evil in Haddonfield. At the end of Halloween Ends, Laurie states that "evil doesn't die; it changes shape." Her line could be a tease that Michael Myers might be gone, but the evil that consumed him can return to Haddonfield or elsewhere in a new form, like the case with Corey's short stint as Haddonfield Boogeyman. One thing is for certain: the Halloween franchise has several ways to continue beyond Michael Myers and Laurie Strode.
